Icons on the desktop

I expect this has been answered before here, but after reinstalling Puppy recently I've had to install some dotpups such as Opera and I'd like to be able to be able to launch them by clicking on their desktop icons.

I've got the icons, now how do I set up the links with the installed applications so that I can do this?

BTW, Happy Easter to all Puppy users (especially those who use this forum) ,

Colonel Panic.

Hi Colonel (btw. I like the name! )

The first thing to do is find the program, most live in /usr/local or /usr/local/bin if you cannot track them down then open a terminal and use the 'which' command with the program executable name eg:

sh-3.00# which bzflag
will return its location eg
/usr/local/bin/bzflag

Open the folder that contains the executable file and drag it to the desktop.

You can now right click on the new desktop icon an choose 'set icon', drag your icon image onto the grey box and your done.

Thanks for the great advice, which I followed and Opera's now clickable from the desktop! Happy Easter to you.

Best,

Colonel Panic.

P.S. Thanks too for the compliment :)
