Can't boot 2.15CE from USB pen
Hello All,
I downloaded this iso,
File: puppy-215CE-Final.iso 134776 KB 4/9/2007 2:20:00 PM
I mounted it using Alcohol 120%, and got the files off it & copied all the files from the ISO to my OCZ 2gb USB Pen Drive.
But when I try to boot off it I get the error, there are no boot files or something like that on this device.
Just wondering what is wrong. Do I need a floppy disk to get it to boot? Or do I have to delete everything off my usb pen and just have puppy linux files on it?
Thanks

This may help:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=16950
It describes several ways to boot Puppy, including installing the GRUB bootloader on a flash drive.

Well I tried that link you gave me and copied the files to the usb pen in the folder and so on but when I try to boot off the usb pen it stills says this is not a bootable device bla bla....
I did burn the iso and that works it automatically boots into puppy linux did not give me any options to choose by the way.
Any other ideas? On how to do this? I remember doing this last year some time where I just copied 4 or 5 files to my usbpen and it booted and worked great but I think it was an older version maybe?
THanks

From what I remember if you use the Puppy Universal Installer you are offered a number of different choices for the master boot record of the usb device, have you tried all of them?
What filesystem is the pen formatted with?

Ok nevermind, I do get a boot up screen with some options but I dont see anything to do with Universal Installer. The closes one I found said something about, USB Card boot....or somethingbryanviper wrote:USB Pen is Fat32
I never got any options to choose Puppy Universal Installer when I put in the cd, it just auto boots up puppy...
Thanks
& when I choose that it says it could not find whatever file and it boots off the cd-rom.
Thanks

If you have the files on the USB pen then all you should have to do is make the pen bootable using syslinux.
syslinux is in Puppy if you have the CD booted or can be found as a Windows download on the net. Use Google.
It will copy ldlinux.sys to your USB pen.
Then you copy the isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg and make it look like this:
the key is PMEDIA=usbflash which tells Puppy it's booting from the USB pen.
