Ethernet (ipv4) over Firewire (1394) finally success

#1 Post by Béèm »

With the 2.16beta I took up the matter again.

I issue all known 1394 commands
modprobe ieee1394
modprobe ohci1394
modprobe eth1394
modprobe raw1394
modprobe dv1394

Maybe not all are needed.

Then in rxvt:
I see I have a news eth device. (in my case it is eth2)
I do: ifconfig eth2 10.0.1.2
In my connected XP machine the 1394 has as address 10.0.1.1

I can ping between the two machine in both directions.

Now the big test.

I start linNeighborhood.
I query on 10.0.1.1
I get the respons back with the XP machine details.
I scan as root on the XP machine
I get the shared devices.
I click on one of them (a disk) and mount it;
Here I have to replace the machine name by 10.0.1.1, otherwise the shere doesn't mount.
I can access the share.

The network wizard don't detect this Firewire device yet, therefor the configuration by hand in rxvt.

I'll try to load the modules via the Network Wizard and save each time to see if they load at boot time.

Will let know at next boot.
