 Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI

Hi I just started using Puppy Linux. Anyways I am getting sound from my onboard sound, but none from my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI.
The card works when I am in WinXP. What do I need to do to get it to work on Puppy. I have PLinux booting from a CD and saving to my hard drive.

Try running the sound wizard, sometimes that will fix it. Also be sure all your Alsamixer settings are unmuted with volume levels up.

I have the same audio card and the same problem.. no sound
I did everthing, i ran sound wizard, the system detec mi sound cards with this module after run alsa config (Ca0106) and still no work. N
Need some help.

after run alsa config (Ca0106). But still silence. I found solve of problem! Simple run KMIIX. In tab Switchers click in IEC958. After sound is play! Lamp IEC958 must not light(off) - but default is a light(on) and sound is off.

Hi
Run the ALSA Sound Wizard in the menu, and select "sb16".
Then run alsamixer, make sure nothing is muted & volumes are up
If no success, try some manual configuration.
Open /etc/modprobe.conf in geany and you will see these lines, or similar, at the bottom
| Code: | alias snd-card-0 snd-sb8
alias sound-slot-0 snd-sb8
options snd-sb8 irq=? dma8=? port=?

Now you will need to find out the card's hardware settings - irq/dma8/port, and manually change these values in modprobe.conf
Reboot after each change.

Aitch, no. The correct ALSA module for Project2501 is snd-ca0106, not snd-sb16, nor snd-sb8.
Also, the irq/dma/port options are only necessary (and only possible) with ISA sound cards. Project2501's card is PCI.
Project2501, the core of your problem is that you are using 2 sound cards. ALSA can be configured to use multiple sound cards - it involves multiple device listings in /etc/modprobe.conf - but this can get messy. All audio applications will direct the sound to the first audio device (snd-card-0) and you would need to configure them all to use the second audio device.
It's much easier just to disable your onboard sound. Do this in bios. Then your Audigy will be the primary audio device.

I have the same problems as the original poster but this doesn't work for me. I had given up after much searching finding many people with similar problems over the years and no solutions.
However, does it appear that NeoGans may have come up with a solution in his above post. I'm assuming that he means kmix rather than kmiix. But this program doesn't seem to be in puppy 3.99 and I can't find a pet package for it. Does anyone know where I can download it from?
Or alternatively, what configuration file I need to change to achieve the same result that NeoGans described.

Forget kmix. NeoGans seems to be using some KDE version of Linux.
Use the correct mixer for ALSA drivers; alsamixer. Run the "alsamixer" command in a terminal.
You should see the IEC958 setting listed, but more importantly check that your Master and PCM volumes are up, and that the Master setting is unmuted. Press the "m" key to mute/unmute.

Hi All
I have the same problem.
All modules started succesfully, except two warnings:
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Master',0
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'PCM',0
And No Sound.
In alsamixer all volumes == 100%, unmute (but no PCM and Master fields).
Configuration saved; alsactl store 0
How to fix this warnings ?
May be need update alsa library ?
May be need set current user name at /etc/groups ?

Hmm
I'm trying setup my sound card under Mandriva 2008 Linux.
With Alsa 1.0.14 library support (without compiling)
End I found very interesting thing
If I mute only IEC958 = MM (and other IEC is unmuted) i have sound in my headphones, but if IEC958 unMute - no sound.
I will try this trick under my puppy linux

After several days of pulling my hear out hitting "M" to unmute worked. How useful is it to default to mute? To the alsa gods PLEASE rethink this.
and for what its worth how about a SOME kind of clear indication of being muted MM is what? Muted (you) moron?  Sheesh!

That's a SoundBlaster 128. It's fully supported in all versions of Puppy by the snd-ens1371 ALSA driver ...
and it's completely unrelated to the SB Audigy under discussion in this thread.

I know my hardware works, but I'm unable to get my sound to function correctly. After running alsawizard and selecting CA0106, I was getting only static. I've used retrovol and alsamixer to try and determine the issue. The weird part is that when I turn master volume and analog front to 100% the static nearly subsides and get a whisper out of youtube videos.
By the way, ticking the box for IEC958, in retrovol, stops the static but produces no sound.
Any advice leading to a solution is greatly appreciated.
