I probably should have posted my problem here first instead of in the announcements forum.
I like rainbow very much; however, it will not allow me to start with "puppy nopcmcia' or any other 'puppy' command I typed in.
I can successfully run 216 final (with EZpup) using "puppy nopcmcia' on my AMD D700 desktop and need to run it on my Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop or the boot hangs on "loading kernel modules'.

I am using Linux Tmxxine “Rainbow” my own puplet or version of Puppy Linux. In fact I typed this up in Open Office Writer which is one of the many programs available out of the box. Open Office is a big, powerful and reliable work horse – or is that work dog
I have released four or five versions of Linux Tmxxine. Most of the first versions were experiments on how to create my own Linux distribution. This is the first time I am using my own version in preference to the latest Puppy. My feeling is I will do much the same as Warren and release an updated .pet. So Linux Tmxxine will just be an adaptation of the latest Puppy. In fact if the sfs upload facility (which I have suggested in the suggestions part of the forum) is incorporated into Puppy over the next year, there will be very little to add . . .

If you can not download (my nemesis 'the fish' may be on the internet) don't worry . . . the final version will be out some time in 2008 . . . maybe (yep I follow the MS release schedule) . . . may just delay it to 2010

I tried to download but get "Forbidden [403]" problem |

I just tried (1 min ago) to download from the link in your very first post on this thread. I even followed the links in your sig. Any which way but lose - still get a Forbidden [403] error. Perhaps you're working on the Beta and you've taken it offline??

I am very grateful that 'Previously known as Guest' is hosting Linux Tmxxine
I did have it on the Tmxxine Server, where we have the wiki and the wiki went down for two days due to server limits
So I removed that link. I am sure you will get through eventually . . .
As you are near Battersea Bridge and I too live in Wandsworth I could send you a copy, if that would help
There is nothing mysterious about Linux Tmxxine - just the latest Puppy with Ezpup and four sfs included

I do live near Battersea Bridge (or Battersby Bridge as my mother-in-law calls it, LOL! She's a Corrie fan) but I don't want to put you out. If you can provide a link to a host I can simply download it and burn it myself.
I take it you're in London as well, then?
EDIT:
Thanks PKAG!

"Prism" Beta 2 now being prepared |
|
I am working on the next Beta . . .
333MB was a little big . . .
So now I am creating the possibility of a staggered download of the components you want . . .

Components |
|
Hi Lobster
I`d like to try Tmxxine though it is a bit much on dial up and I always have problems about installation especially devx.sfs with its loops and things.
Could you please make your Staggered components in a .PET format? so it just works! Thanks

Thanks for the prompt response to my 'nopcmcia' post .... getting slow in my old(er) age. Loads like a charm on my laptop when I use the right commands. Just need to get sound and wlan working now.
I think your idea of offering 'prism' as a base with add-on (seperately downloadable and hopefully independently installable) is great. I usually have to rely on dial up and generally have had good luck with downloads of about 100 MB. On a good night that's 3-4 hours. Lucked out and got a good wlan connection on my laptop running vista (not my first choice) to DL rainbow.
Thanks for the good work. You sure live in a different part of the 'tidal pool' than I do.

Linux Tmxxine Rainbow Prism Puplet 2.17 Beta 2 Subject description: how it is going . . . |
|
Thanks for the comments and support
It is going well and I may release a taster shortly after Barry releases
2.17 "Dancer" alpha (for testing) this will be on Wed 27 June 2007
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Puppy217
"FireFox"
individual .pets and .pups for major programs are available here
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyLinuxMainPage
A version of this page was available in 1.09CE, Puppy Viz (2.15CE) and will be available in Linux Tmxxine Prism
Basically the wiki page and the Linux Tmxxine page links to info and .pets for the latest and best 'must have programs' - some of which are too big for the base Puppy
Warren has I believe shown the future possibilities with EZpup and Rainbow and Prism use the EZpup enhancements
Also available are the SFS squash files most of which were developed for Puppy Viz
The SFS Bootmanager was experimentally introduced in Puppy 2.16
The sfs needs further work, as even on a pristine 2.16.1 install sfs files, wander, dissapear, fail to appear and so on
I also believe that it makes sense to adopt a naming convention, that Warren is using with EZpup, consistent with Puppy - so "Prism" will be Linux Tmxxine 2.17 / Prism (for short)
or Linux Tmxxine Rainbow Prism Puplet 2.17 Beta 2 (to give it a grandiose title)
The name Linux Tmxxine was choosen before I knew it wouold be based on Puppy - hence the name
http://peace.wikia.com/wiki/Tmxxine_Linux
I may (though it seems unnecessary) release a complete distro based on Puppy 2.17 . . . Rainbow downloads closed the Tmxxine website for a couple of days so that may not be possible. I really have no intention of using unleashed but would just use Dougals remaster
CUPS printing was asked for - this can be added from the included web page. I rarely print, so it is not a priority. It may be more important in the future.
How you can help?
Well really helping Puppy helps Tmxxine.
In particular Sunburnt I believe did the initial work on the Sfs boot manager - maybe he will look at the code again . . .
Also I am only testing this running Puppy from CD. Not sure how it will work on frugal or HD installs . . . So when the taster / tester comes out coders will be able to make suggestions. Though I might not understand them
There is not much code in Linux Tmxxine (it is not something I relish or am any good at) So I like things to be simple . . . less to go wrong
. . . just to keep you informed . .
