Notes on eBox-2300 with Puppy 2.16 setup

#1 Post by brucehohl »

I installed Puppy 2.16 on an eBox-2300. Just a few comments:

(1) - Generally application start-up times are too long - see attached files for time by application. It would be helpful if Puppy displayed a hour glass or the like during application start-up to show the user something was going on.

(2) - SeaMonkey starts and runs very slow. I added the Opera browser which performs better on this hardware.

(3) - RDP connection to a Windows PC and X forwarding connection to Linux PC over a LAN (ssh -X user@computer some_application) work very well! The eBox was designed mainly for thin client use.

See attached notes for more detailed information.

Hi brucehohl; Opera is lighter weight than Mozilla or Firefox & many like it alot.

There should be a .pet package for it, maybe at MU's site.

Perhaps a popup window with a rotating vector type graphic on it.
It wouldn't indicate any sort of progress, just that something's being done.
This would be useful for tasks like: copying, compression, loading, etc.
