Hi,
Puppy Linux looks very interesting for its size content ratio.

I could download and burn the iso without problem.
But now whatever I try, the boot-process stops after "type of mouse" with a black screen.
I guess that it has something to do with the VGA Mode and this may be resolved with a suitable boot option.
Where can I find a list of the boot options for Puppy Linux ?
Can I use KNOPPIX CheatCode ? and what is the kernel name for Puppy Linux ?

kind regards and thanks for an answer.

Can you elaborate a bit on the spec of your system.
Also, are you using a USB mouse, or a PS/2 one. There are reports of initial boot problems with usb mouses in the forum ( somewhere )

I give the kernel a lot of parameters with grub. I don't think this option is availabe on a cd boot.

after you select the mouse it tries to start X. I think it's hanging on starting X

video card / monitor incompatibility maybe?

i am not saying for sure this will work, but bladehunder(i believe) has a frame bufffer supported puppy distro. might be the answer.

I have the same problem, as Haplu.

I have buyed the magazine "linuxuser" on the CD from the magazine is Puppy 1.0.4.

I havent change anything in the BIOS, but when i start the PC and give the CD into it, then Puppy starts.
After the "type of mouse" (I use a PS/2-mouse) there are some more lines, but to fast to read it and after it the "black screen" comes.

On the same PC i use Windows2000, it is a Pentium III with 700Mhz and 288MB SDRAM.

Itīs my first contact with Puppy/Linux and my englisch is also not the best but i would be very happy, when you could help me.

The sequence I get is, it asks for the type of mouse, then asks if the mouse has a wheel.

Then X starts, the two posters with problems report that it happens after the type of mouse question and not after the wheel question. Maybe it is not X related, as I earlier thought.

It is also not a case sensitive problem (PS/2 vs ps/2) as that will produce an text error message.

I don't know.

Did it ever work? The reason I ask is maybe the /etc/videomode file has bad information

If it never worked, I'd try the frame buffer Puppy version.

I believe this is by bladehunter. I've not used it and I don't know where to get it off hand

bladehunter? what do you think?

It's out there somewhere. Maybe this will help:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=puppy+linux+framebuffer&num=100

Even tighter:
