Ooh, I like the pawprint for the menu button...though a Mac-like circle version of the puppy logo rastapax made would also be good.MGFox wrote:Don't forget Puppy also use the good looking paw image as seen in the menu button and wallpapers; but I still like rastapax's logo better, it looks puppy (not grown up dog), clean, modern. I just hope rastapax could make a circle-glass version so it'll suitable for the menu button as well as icon.
New Puppy Logo!
Rasapax's logo is great
Dear puppians,
My vote goes to rastapax - since it truly looks like a logo and is very distinctive and eye-catching. I would also like to see a few glassy icons in various colours for various colour schemes that could be used for the start button...along the lines of the circular-framed paw-print above. It's a pleasure seeing creative minds at work on a good thing - and Barry's Puppy being the unifying principle.
With kind regards,
vovchik

To my eye this begins to drift toward more of a clownish dolphin than a dog.WhoDo wrote:Perhaps this is what you rastapax fans had in mind?
Might just be me.

Ok, this is my last attempt to please everybody! After this I'll hand it back to Barry to make a decision. Otherwise we could end up going around in circles forever, and that won't get either the web page or Puppy's image updated anytime soon.
Realise that this is important to Puppy's future and please keep the comments constructive. BTW, the background color is negotiable within the web-compatible spectrum.

observation.
I have to say that if this graphic were used it looks much better inside the
square rather than the circle - again, to my eye - even with the ears it still
looks cartoon or clownish to me in the circle, perhaps less so in the square.
I am kinda drawn to the paw print as well, in fact it avoids gender and could
be taken to be about any breed dog one wants it to be!

Hello, Warren and all,
Fred Langa - Langa's List∞ 'I've been having excellent results from "Puppy Linux" of late (even though I cringe every time I type the name) Its site at http://www.puppylinux.com/∞ describes it as "blindingly fast, incredibly powerful, amazingly tiny..."
Yes, these things are subjective, but Fred's impression frankly reflected my own. Not a bad name at all, and very fine compared with Beatrix Linux (a cat) or a myriad other linux names. But that's an aside - Puppy it is forever, amen. But let's not burden it with a lame logo.
Barry's plain and simple brown head-on logo is far better, if a little severe. On the other hand his avatar is oustanding, full of character, and guess reflective of Barry's own wit and wisdom. I would vote for it.
Another logo, the dog with a flower in his mouth is just too "cute." Does not inspire confidence or professionalism.
I'm sure I am offending some here. I don't know whose these designs are, but I care enough to comment. The puppy in the JWM start button is another that I like a lot. Perhaps it might be adapted.
Thanks for your patience, if I may presume. Appreciate everything you are doing.
Henry

Just to make comparisons a little easier, here is a sample pack of the various types of logo discussed.

With all due respect to everyone involved, please consider that commercial and not-for-profit enterprises alike do not change their logos often, and when they do, it's rarely drastic. There's a very good reason (or seventeen) for this:
product recognition through consistency
So if you all want to while away the hours, reinvent wheels and niggle over minutia, be my guest and have at it.
I, for one, see nothing wrong with the classic paw print logo circa Puppy 1.08r1.

Sure, the paw print is not bad. The difficulty with abstract logos is they should still be recognizable. Not easy, I know. Of course once you establish the relationship, by labeling it "puppy" there's no problem. I would not know one animal's paw print from another without being told.
The recent circular abstrations have the same problem. The ones I have seen do in fact resemble (to me) a seal or a cat, etc. I suggest they should look unambiguously like a puppy, however stylized. Barry's official logo does nicely. MU's Vincent is outstanding! as is the just suggested streamlined version of it.

Hmmm. Lets see here. I've downloaded a computer ISO of a GNU/Linux OS. The site I'm downloading it from has called it Puppy Linux. Ah, there's a paw print on the desktop. Wonder what kind of paw print that is ...Henry wrote:Sure, the paw print is not bad. The difficulty with abstract logos is they should still be recognizable. Not easy, I know. to take this chance to ask if anyone could make a wallpaper
like the old tropicana suntan lotion add only with a older
women and the bikini should be a microsoft flag
the face should be bill gates

Okay, how about this one? Button embossing can be more pronounced if required. With our without the glassy effect?
Ok, the voting is now open...and I've updated the comparison package on the previous page.
