I downloaded the 60gig ISO and burned it to a CD-RW. And I looked at the CD, and it contains files etc.

BUT, when I try to boot from the CD I get this message:

boot: Could not find kernel image: linux

And then it goes no further!!

Whats the problem please?

Lisa, I realize it was just a typo, but it did make me laugh, thank you.

We get more problems with people using CD-RW than with CD-R (lots more).

Sorry, you must have made a mistake, the iso should be 60M not 60Gig.

When you download Puppy there are two things to remember and do.

1. Download the md5sum.txt file and check the iso for download errors, instructions are on the Puppy download page at www.goosee.com/puppy.

2. When you burn the iso burn it as an image not a straight copy to CD.

I guess you must have burned a bootable CD or it wouldn't have got that far. Smile

I use CD-RW myself, so that's not the problem. What burning program did you use?

Suggest you try erasing the CD-RW and burning it again, at a slower speed.

Short translation:
Someone can boot his desktop-PC from CD without problems, but on his Medion-Notebook (a german manufacturer) he gets the same message as Lisa.

I suggested to ask in this board with a detailed desription.

I have burned the ISO successfuly using k3b, a front end for cdrecord.

Its burned ok, and shows all the files etc on the cd-rw.

And it begins to boot the CD, but stops and gives the error message:

Could not find kernel image: linux

And I tried burning this using 4x and 2x and 1x speed with SAME message when trying to boot it.

So what is the fix please? All I want to do is boot this CD Smile

I have never had problems before burning linux ISO files, this is FIRST time.

Any advice please, or I will have to skip trying out puppy.

yet it wont boot

help???

Have you tried a different CDRW disk or a CDR.

You have to know for yourself if your CD-ROM drive supports CD-RW as it should. I would think it would if it can write them. Just in case your booting CD-ROM drive is a different drive, it is something you might want to consider. But you know your computer and I don't.

As far as md5sums are concerned, I think the md5sum that really matters is the one on the CD disk. It is time consuming to do, but I think k3b has the option to verify the written CD against the orginal .iso

That's the one I use. There is not a problem with this release along the lines of the trouble you are having.

Have you used the CD-RW for a prior boot linux iso? It may need to be erased or formatted to over write prior boot section. This list doesnot contain linuz

I think there is a problem if the CD-ROM drive is not hda, hdb, hdc, or hdd. I forgot to mention that. This might be the problem you are having.

I have the same problem with the CD that came with the last "linux-user" magazine.
Is it posible to create a boot-floppy?
Or can I tell lilo at boot time where to find the image?
