Files for Abi-ru interface

#18 Post by vovchik »

Dear Magerlab and Melvix,

I have attached the files you need for a AbiWord-ru interface. If your version of AbiWord is in another directory - e.g. /usr/share/AbiSuite-2.x, look for it and place the attached "strings" file in the appropriate place. I have also attached my script to run the Russian version in /usr/local/bin. As for the dictionary, I'll have to see where to get it. I used the one from my Windows AbiWord, and copied it to the /dictionaries directory. It works. It is about 8 MB, so too large to place on the forum (files russian.hash and russian.hash-encoding. Incidentally, Gnumeric can be Russified in exactly the same way.

As for Rox, I downloaded the source code (v. 2.6.1) from the Rox site and have read on that site (see Internationalisation) that you can compile it and indicate the languages that you want included when you select a language from the Options menu. I haven't had time yet to compile it. I don't know whether the languages dotpup will also work, but I will have a look (that would be easier and more efficient for the Russification effort than a fresh compiled version). If you try the languages dotpup and it works, please post the information here.

Terminal in Russian

Excellent work magerlab! The new mrxvt - posted on the forum recently - supports a variety of languages, including Japanese and Chinese, so I assume it supports Cyrillic too. I will try and test it. Another term is vte. It shows Russian properly on my system, but I think it requires quite a few libraries:
root$ [/usr/share/freebasic/examples/unicode]-> ldd /usr/bin/vte

libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/X11R7/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x4095c000)

gshterm also shows Cyrillic and has similar dependencies.

I have attached a little example programe from freebasic that should print out "Привет, мир!" on your terminal (start it with ./hello_russian in the directory in which you unpacked it). You might find it useful for configuration/testing purposes. Since I have KDE libraries installed, I usually use Konsole, which has no problems displaying Russian, although mrxvt is also very good and is lighter.

With kind regards,
vovchik
