puppy2puppy

Okay, the whole point of puppy2puppy would be to make DotPups more readily
available. Maybe an application similar to giftui and a blend of Barry K's puget manager.
The idea is to open the application and view dotpups and download them.
with a description of what the dotpup is.
This would be an p2p application meaning us puppies would be the servers.
Except exclusive for puppies, similar to debians synaptic.
So, open application see all available dotpups, and click on one and a description pops up.
This could be a simple .txt file already in puppy's docs or a little sidebar with descriptions.
And when ready double click on file to download, then run the dotpup as normal,
This would be ideal for the puppy foundation I beleive, until it is established
and able to pay for bandwidth, but also, to bring applications one step closer
to the desktop. I am still wondering about a wiki page that updates the .txt files
similar to pizzapups radiostation updater.
I hope other find P2P useful and see the brains behind this.

one step closer

While this is what I'm aiming for, it is not what I want.
I think P2P should be the way to download, but still have a browser like this one to view
DotPups and download them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and start looking for weekly pawcast!!!

This seems a great idea - hope you continue with it and include all the Dotpups.

Barrys long term aim is to merge Pupget and Dotpup
At the moment Dotpup is very much a zip file on steriods with confirmation of the download process. It has been very well implemented and with this sort of program it becomes even easier to use.

Keep us informed 8)

Hi,

Great work here, but that color text at the bottom is hard to read, don't you think? I presume that's adjustable like in Windows somewhere?

it's easy to share dotpups using a p2p program like bit torrent or mute or gnutella etc etc

for example:

it is not quite as easy as just clicking the link to a dotpup on a webpage to download it (though actually you can do just about that to download using bit torrent in Opera)

setting up a p2p program usually involves opening at least 1 incoming port, which is not difficult, for the TC it's not quite as easy as just downloading and clicking a dotpup

this is something I thought about to.
So, I guess the reason it has not been iplemented is wikka's ease of use?
I kinda like the idea of less bandwidth for those paying!!!
But at the same time I guess it is just easier for wikka!!!
Anyway's MU beat me to my original plan, which is cool!
I was trying to copy off of G2 and pizzagood and their radio collaboration!!

the main idea behind dotpups is that it is simple, easy, and reliable for TC people

(easy because unzipping and permissions etc etc are all taken care of, and because downloading an installer file and clicking it is what Windows users are used to doing ... and reliable because of the md5sum checking)

the way Opera works with torrent files makes downloading torrents about the same as downloading any file, so just as easy ... i don't remember setting up a torrent port for Opera, maybe Opera just finds an open port and uses it?

anyway, people can do what they want with the dotpup idea, it's ok with me

and yes, it was klhrevolutionist who posted the idea of a Radio-gui-interface for dotpups

If the bittorrent idea is incorporated into puppy2puppy, without actually showing a bittorrent program, I'm sure it'll be simple enough :-)

Just make sure to include an option 'Do not upload files yourself', in case some people have a low upload limit.
