Will Puppy run in a Gridlite XL-1044?

#1 Post by senilechemist »

Newbie to puppy - currently running 5.2.8 on Tosh A10 pro, IGB RAM + 3com wifi card.- very impressive. Steep but rewarding learning curve :D

I have inherited an old GRIDLITE XL model 1044 - Believe it has an 8086 processor and circa 600kb RAM + LCD non colour screen. Is there any way this can be made to run on an early puppy (1.5?) from a floppy disc? Machine has landline modem. Has std 1.4 mb floppy drive. Its all working on an early dos but don't have original GRID software. It would be great to get it to run in Linux and do basic things - even surf? Wishful thinking? TIA.

Yes. But there are single-diskette Linux's around that might work.

Linus Torvalds was using a 386 when he made his invention ;) 8086, 186 (wasn't very popular), 286, then 386.

Look here --> http://elks.sourceforge.net/

If that ever gets working, then you will have a way to do it. I actually have a personal friend working on this project, although he's way busy these days, hence not much is going on there right now.
