Easy wireless connection with Puppy 1.0.5?

#1 Post by Fox7777 »

We are trying to make a wireless connection to the internet on an HP
ZE2113US laptop with Puppy Linux 1.0.5 as described in
http://www-uxsup.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/doc/ ... ig.ki.scan
The Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN Driver version 4.00 C, see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ob-31557-1 , driver is a Broadcom bcmwl5.inf file that is easily obtainable from HP or Broadcom.

We have the driver copied into /tmp/bcmwl5.inf but can't find any clear, step-by-step directions how to get this driver to function. What is the solution or where are those clear, step-by-step directions?

Re: Easy wireless connection with Puppy 1.0.5? (solved)

It seems that having kinternet on a KDE version of Puppy & ndiswrapper are 2 essentials for a good solution. On Suse 9.3 (see http://www.opensuse.org ) you can just right mouse click on your kinternet icon, select your wireless connection & you are in business with a system that is more secure & much better than Windows. Usually you have to copy the Windows driver into ndiswrapper so that Linux can use it.

We copied the entire WLAN folder from the Windows XP disk into Puppy 1.0.5 and it appears to be up and running (although we still got the Forcing parameter messages). Apparently in Puppy you don't want to put the files in /tmp because they will disappear when you exit the program.

To summarize, we downloaded the Perl PupGet, copied the Windows WLAN folder from the Windows CD to root in Puppy. Then installed the wireless driver with "ndiswrapper -i /root/WLAN/bcmwl.inf". Then checked the install with "ndiswrapper -l". Then entered "modprobe ndiswrapper". Then entered "iwconfig". Then ran the Wireless Wizard in Puppy. We successfully connected to a wireless network to test the system so this problem is solved.
