How to listen to Voice of Russia online with Tmxxine?
I am using Tmxxine Shard which suits me perfectly. Thank you, it is very enjoyable. I installed the extra xine codecs but is there anything else needed to listen to Voice of Russia, as it says no mms. When I use Mint, it switches to the Totem player and VOR is good on that. Also, I cant hear the Swedish Radio ones, but they insist on WMPlayer, it goes so far then X-ine engine doesn't start.

If you're sick of seeing "MMS is not a registered protocol" when trying to view streaming content, here's the fix! I use Debian Linux with the KDE desktop, but this should work so long as you've got Firefox and Kaffeine installed. Mplayer would probably work in place of Kaffeine.
(1.) Open Firefox, type "about:config" (no quotes) in the address window, and click enter.
(2.) Right click on the window and choose <New>, then <String> from the pop-up menu that appears.
(3.) In the first pop-up box, enter: "network.protocol-handler.app.mms" (no quotes, and it might just be easier to cut 'n paste this into the box).
(4.) In the next pop-up box enter the path to Kaffeine (e.g. "/usr/bin/kaffeine").
(5.) Now, click in the main window again but choose <New> <Boolean>
(6.) In the first pop-up box, enter: "network.protocol-handler.external.mms"
(7.) In the second pop-up select <True>.
Done. Enjoy.

I'm not sure where exactly to go but I found http://www.vor.ru/Audio/audio_eng.phtml
and using the wonderful Firefox extension MediaPlayerConnectivity and VLC I could open the audiostreams. VLC is my favourite media player in Puppy.

Good gracious I feel honoured to get such extreme reactions.
As Shard is Puppy 2.17.1 with little more than 3 extra programs and IceWm as the default, let us think why connection and sound is not working.
Firstly sound. Sound comes care of Ezpup and Icewm.
Go to Multimedia and Puppy Sound mixer in the menu to adjust the volume. Working?
Connection? Click on the Desktop "Setup" icon. If as you say you got 2.17 working - there is no difference - you should be able to get Shard working.
Good luck
This calls for some sort of award, don't y'all think so?klu9 wrote:Lobster wrote:Wot even worse than Windows ME?d4p wrote:I would say that Tmxxine Shard is the worst os ever.

The Golden Puppy Award?
BTW: We tried Shard here, not so bad at all. We did try to force it into an
ancient laptop with 16MB of RAM and it copped an attitude.
Wow, "worse than Windows ME", now that would be an amazing feat!
Didn't it take Bill Gates' billions to create that pathetic OS and here
our very own Lobster one-upped him on a shoestring?
