Email Auto responder (Solved)

#1 Post by gary101 »

Hi All

I am looking for an email client that I can use to set up message rules and use as an auto responder.

I want to be able to save emails as templates (possibly with attachments) and automatically reply to incoming mail with an auto response based on the subject line text.

Does anyone know of a client that runs under Puppy and fills those requirements?

Cheers

Gary

In seamonkey, check under "tools/message filters"
Under "Perform this action" there is an option to "Reply with template"

I've never tried this myself (except for deleting some persistant junk email) but maybe it will do what you'd like?

Thanks Trapster

Been using the seamonkey email client for ages and never associated 'Filters' with 'Rules' (how dense am I?).

I have a bit of a problem though and I am not sure if it just my install, me doing things wrong or a problem with the version of seamonkey email client in puppy (i am using 2.16 BTW).

The steps I am following are:
creating a new email with the details as per I want my autoresponse to be
In File, Save As I then choose Template
At this point a message box appears and disappears too quickly to read. I would have thought I should get a chance to name it.

Anyhow, I am assuming that it has saved as a template somewhere (perhaps with subject as filename!?)

At this point I go into Tools, Message Filters and select New
The setting up of the text to look for in the subject is easy to do but when I get to the next bit I start to have problems.

I select the action Reply With Template but no templates are available from the dropdown.

My best guess is that the template has not saved properly.

Can anyone help me out?

Ok, I sussed out that the templates have been saved by their subject in the templates folder.

Still no joy in being able to choose a template when setting up a filter/rule though.

Any ideas? :)

The "Help" button is usually quite helpful when you're not sure what to do.
The following is found in the help file.
Creating and Using Templates

Templates are useful for setting the default format for messages that you
send regularly, such as weekly status reports. You can save a message as a
template from any window in which it is displayed, including from within a
Mail compose window.

To save a message to use as a template:

1. In the Mail window, click Compose to create a new message and then set
the default font, text size, text color, background color, and any other
default formatting you want.

Alternatively, open an existing message that already has the formatting
you want.

2. While displaying the message, open the File menu, choose Save As, then
choose Template. The message is stored as a template in the Templates
folder for the current mail account.

To compose a message using a template:

1. In the Mail window, select the Templates folder for the account where you
created the message template.

2. Double-click the message template to open it.

3. Edit the message, then save it (to put it in the Drafts folder) or send
it.

Note: Sending the message does not remove the template
from the Templates folder. The template is preserved for future use.

To delete one or more unwanted message templates, begin from the Mail
window:

1. Click the Templates folder for the account where you created the message
templates.

2. Select the message templates that you want to delete.

3. Click Delete in the Mail toolbar.

Thanks for that trapster.

I guess my install is broken as the help button does not work either.

Going to try it from the live cd and see if there is any joy with that

OK, I have found out what the problem is.

I needed to choose which account to run the filters on before it would show any saved templates in the dropdown box.

Thanks for the help.
