XMMS DotPup won't work. |
|
For some reason, XMMS won't start, I installed it, clicked the icon, nothing happened.
Xmms 1.2.9 Audio Player∞ (488k) ... Home Page
Ok now I moved around some libaries, and it FINALLY booted up, but now nothing is playing. Whenever i select a file, (mp3) it doesn't load it.

what messages do you get, when you start it in rxvt?
Does sound work with other programs?

i think you are using my xmms dotpup package
i think it makes a symlink to /opt when it runs
if you don't have /opt, it won't work
the program could have checked if /opt existed, and created the /opt dir if it did not exist ... but i didn't realize that some Puppy's (usually option 2 installs) don't have /opt
all you have to do is create the /opt folder
either using Rox or by typing mkdir /opt
if you've changed the files that were installed, it would probably be a good idea to reinstall the dotpup

i've fixed the package so it should run whether you have /opt or not, and i added the missing wmxmms.xpm file

I just downloaded it from the wiki and when i run it in puppy 1.0.5 RC, I get:
| Code: | # xmms
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
serial 1745 error_code 8 request_code 72 minor_code 0
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
serial 1746 error_code 8 request_code 72 minor_code 0

Thats all, nothing starts.
There seems to be a problem with Gtk.
I run the xorg-Xserver with JWM and Icewm.
Maybe it has to be recompiled using usr_devx.fs

i just installed xmms from my dotpup from the link on the wiki page and it seems to work ok ... no error messages at all when i run it from the command line ... screenshot
i am running 1.0.5rc with Icewm and usr_devx.fs and MU's xorg package
gxine sometimes prints Badmatch error messages ... are you sure xmms is not a symlink to gxine?

I'm using the XMMS DotPup on 1.0.5rc just fine, although I may try & rebuild it to conform to new DotPup guidelines:
(1) Install to /usr
(2) Register with PupGet
(3) Use fixmenus
Also update it 1.2.10
It has the annoying feature of having a full JWM title bar - leading to having 2 X at top-right to close.
JWM v0.24 now has options to remove the title bar from named windows, but I've not yet got it to work here.

the title bar is in xmms preferences
(ctrl+P, options tab, Show Window Manager Decorations)
if you remove it, dragging the xmms window will redraw the xmms window as it moves ... with the title bar enabled, you just move an outline of the window, which is easier for older slower hardware
ctrl+D - double size
ctrl+W - window shade mode
ctrl+S - show on all desktops
ctrl+A - always on top

Hmm.. maybe I messed up my system with testing too much software, will try it tomorrow with a clean pup003.
I am too tired now (10 am, did not sleep yet)

ok, with a new pup003 it works.
So I messed up my system somehow.
I think i will re-install anyway when 1.0.5 final is out.
