Puppy 3.00BETA Download mdsum error

#1 Post by edoc »

Same wrong mdsum using Seamonkey HTTP and Xwget FTP (tried Xwget twice):

sh-3.00# md5sum puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso
34ab06126d4b74c1486c93454302dd22 puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso
sh-3.00# md5sum puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso.md5.txt
c1ecf1b225f01c179dcb5a6a57a07720 puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso.md5.txt
sh-3.00#

What should I try instead, please?

Sure would like to test 3.00BETA on my Toughbook!

You did the right thing, post the problem, maybe it's not on your end. Especially if you are getting the same md5sum with each download!

Curious about the byte size difference.

If you'll tell me where you got it, I'll be happy to download it and post my results.

v3.00BETA with an older kernel (this is the one I first tried to download):
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributio ... _k2.6.18.1

Here is the v3.00BETA with the newest Linux kernel:
Download from here: ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributio ... -3.00beta/

I agree that there is a problem however I'm curious to know why you calculating the md5sum of the md5.txt file.
I think the conventional way to check an md5 would be

Code: Select all

# md5sum -c puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso.md5.txt
puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso: OK

or

# md5sum -c puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso.md5.txt
puppy-3.00beta-seamonkey-k2.6.18.1.iso: FAILED
md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 1 computed checksums did NOT match
this avoids you having to do the comparison yourself.
The idea is that you could have a single file that specifies md5s for many others calling md5sum -c will check them all and generate a report.

@Bruce
How do you know the file sizes differ?

I have no idea if they differ. I only posted the length of my download.

Edoc would have to post the length of his file to see if they differ.

Will,

Okay, I got it NOW!

Edoc made three failed downloads, I was curious about the byte size difference in his downloads.

Pray you got it now.

Used a different machine and got them. 3.00BETA is awesome!

Looking forward to Barry's second 3.00BETA release as he has a *ton* of fixes from
the terrific feedback he is getting.

3.00 will really rock the Puppy world!
