ATI, oh wonderful ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x card... Subject description: I wish I had a tower... |
|
Ok, tried looking for this in video Hardware... didn't quite get what I was looking for. So, I'm posting my problem here. I have an ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x graphics chip. The 2D graphics in xorg work fine. I've been trying to get the acceleration and all the pretty 3D stuff working and that's been... fun. ^^; *X didn't like my tinkerings...* Aside from the graphical pets I have installed, its pretty much a base 2.17 install. So, I've come bearing text... and lots of it
Installed Modules concerning Graphics (that I installed thru PetGet):
XOrg DRI Modules 7.0
XOrg OpenGL 7
libsdl 1.2.9
My X11R7 "should" support my card (at least that's the buzz on linuxquestions.org). And it comes up with this in the xorg.conf file: (can put the whole thing up if you need to see other sections.)
Section "Device"
### Available Driver options are:-
### Values: <i>: integer, <f>: float, <bool>: "True"/"False",
### <string>: "String", <freq>: "<f> Hz/kHz/MHz"
### [arg]: arg optional
#Option "accel" # [<bool>]
#Option "crt_display" # [<bool>]
#Option "composite_sync" # [<bool>]
#Option "hw_cursor" # [<bool>]
#Option "linear" # [<bool>]
#Option "force_pci_mode" # [<bool>]
#Option "dma_mode" # <str>
#Option "agp_mode" # <i>
#Option "agp_size" # <i>
#Option "local_textures" # [<bool>]
#Option "buffer_size" # <i>
#Option "tv_out" # [<bool>]
#Option "tv_standard" # <str>
#Option "mmio_cache" # [<bool>]
#Option "test_mmio_cache" # [<bool>]
#Option "panel_display" # [<bool>]
#Option "probe_clocks" # [<bool>]
#Option "reference_clock" # <freq>
#Option "shadow_fb" # [<bool>]
#Option "sw_cursor" # [<bool>]
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "ati" #card0driver
VendorName "ATI"
BoardName "Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x"
ChipSet "ati"
ChipId 0x4c4d
ChipRev 0x64
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
I have tried in the Module section to load dri and glx... no appreciable results. ^^;
Another thing I'd like to know is how to enable/disable the optional arguments. I want to know how I would turn the [<bool>] argument into a TRUE statement. Idk if that'd help, but wouldn't hurt to try... well, ok it might, but no risk, no reward right? I hope someone else has run thru the ATI wall before. If you need any further info, ask. ^_^

Anyone please feel free to correct me, but I think I'm right in saying that there aren't any ATI drivers for 2.17 yet.
I could (and hope I am!) be wrong, however. Certainly wouldn't be the first time!

Sorry bout not leaving the distro number on there. ^^; Thought I'd put my sig up. Hopefully its just a tweaking problem... if not, I'd like to know which pup has the drivers for my lil chip. Thanks for the reply Paul. ^^
