Wow I wrote that before I'd ever tried using it. Its not exactly easy is it?
Assuming that you have a second VT you might find it helpful to do
CTRL-ALT-F2
root
less -N my-file
so that you can see the entire file with line numbers and switch backwards and forwards with CTRL-ALT-F1 / CTRL-ALT-F2
Of course this assumes that fatfree has the less command.
I really should try it out shouldn't I.

Nice job. Great base to build upon (or not). I've been running 109CE, 213,215CE and 216EZ but thought this be just the thing for a fanless VIA 800 box I have. 216EZ runs a bit slow on that box so I wanted to upgrade it to "FatFree217". However. I think there must be a problem in the wlan setup (worked great with 216EZ) as I get device recognition and then the cpu runs so hard the clock updates about every 5 to 10 seconds, mouse is unusable and a reboot and skip of the check to see if the wlan is alive doesn't even make the system usable. I haven't tried the full 217 but guess the problem is really there.
Hopefully puppy 3.0.0 will play better with my H.W. and you will make a 'Fat Free' version of that.
Thanks,
KJ

Bare Bone style Puppys are very useful. I must admit I lean towards the Chubby style Puppys . . .
With Ezpup
and my evolving add on
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=126625&search_id=1562584859#126625
those people needing the lean with some selected add-ons (they can of course use the package installer) will be able to customise a useful Puppy breed of their own . .

I tryed Fat Free yesterday for the first time and it seems to me a great idea since I can start from a basic Puppy to costumize without having to learn how to build it from scratch...
Do you plan to create a Fat Free Puppy 3.0?

I could not put that into words so I am glad that you did
I saw that others had made reduced puppy derivatives but nobody made a newer version so I wanted it bad enough to build it myself
fat free 3 ( based on the official puppylinux 3.00) is out !
my friend ttuuxxx will be hosting it on his site for me
I just uploaded it so check at http://www.ttuuxxx.com for more info
its a little bigger because of the new xorg it is 62MB
If you need any help you can also find me on IRC #puppylinux chat
have fun build what you want

bonjour big_bass
great, really!
thank you very much!
I did add:
wine (.28 from dotpups.de)
Konqueror (standard package in puppy)
of course with qt3 (needed also by much goodies: opera, skype, lyx etc.)
and OO220_215.sfs*
and I have a really great and fast system with OO 2.2 ! and wine .28 !
I would consider on your place if it is usefull to maintain the ROX-filer!
Konqueror is really better, do more and better!
Thank you again

For some reason I thought that Konqueror required KDE. Am I wrong?

bonjour
you are "almost" right.
but embedded Konqueror is a regular puppy package (try it!
"install" > "package manager" etc... and look yourself)
I use now "fatfree" on Puppy 2.17 + konqueror + Open Office 2.2 + wine .28 !
all does wonderfull !

Thanks for trying fat-free-pup 2.17
I had removed the roaring penguin alias PPPoe (I returned it in fat free 3 with the "fix" peinstalled "
good news if you download the link below save the pet on the hard drive or USB flash or even a 3 1/2 floppy since it is 113kb small enough to save anywhere
then boot fat free and locate the pet file you saved click on it it will auto install go to menu restart JWM then connect to internet the usual way
I will re burn the 2.17 with PPPoe installed and I will add e3 the console editor
Good news fat-free-pup 3 is out and I fixed the PPPoe problem and since I built with unleashed no problems with xvesa
use this link for PPPoe roaring penguin 3.7 PET
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-2/rp_pppoe-3.7patched.pet

ttuuxxx, do you have a fatfree 2.17 iso available for download? I would be keen to try it as a possible rescue CD to fit on a business card sized CDR. (50mb-ish capacity)
cheers

Don't know if you need 2.17 specifically, but it is about 53MB. I've got it somewhere lying around but maybe you prefer 4.2.1 which is a bit smaller?

Thanks Hoven. I didnt realise the fatfree was 53mb. I tried burning some other small versions of puppy last night and found that the 50mb limit is strict so I have to go under 50mb.
The 4.2.1 is just over the limit too, unless I can find some way to force overburn. Thanks for the link, I will give it a try.
