How to setup my printer HP 720 C ? Subject description: can install any driver with CUPS-interface... |
|
Hi again,
step by step I got most of my hardware working but not yet my printer...
Via CUPS-webtool I can install any driver/printer (though there is no driver for the 720 C given...), but no test pages are printed... I even tried turbolinux-driver via pb-debianinstaller, to no avail... I also downloaded that forty-something-megas-big "hplip-xxx.pet-thing", but do get complaints by PETget: "packet expansion error". Could please somebody help here? Thank you ! lionesse

Forget the HPLIP, I believe you can uninstall that monster.
See Here
Here
and Here
to get your printer working.
I think I would try the ***.ppd file first and save it to your /root folder. Then start CUPS and see if it's listed.
If that doesn't work, follow the first link. You'll of course need the devx_.sfs for whatever version your using for the compiling.
It's amazing what Google finds!!
Good luck.

If you want to try again the big hplip package, please rename the file
hplip_for_puppy_217-1.7.4a-i486.v2.pet (assuming this the one you downloaded from dotpets.de) to
hplip_for_puppy_217-1.7.4a-i486.pet
and try to install the newly renamed file. That could solve the problem you encountered.
