G'day,
Is there a file manager type program that will save or export the list of files and properties in a directory or on a CD (data and audio) so that the list can be added to a data base on a spreadsheet?
"freecommander" from the Windows freeware world has this option and sort-of runs under Wine.
I've looked at ROX and similar but can't find this function.

How to export a directory tree for a file catalog?
davids45,
not having a clue about freecommander, I'm probably completely misunderstanding what you're after here but, in for a penny in for a pound, (whatever that means!).
What about find? It can be dressed up with all sorts of switches etc to parse files:

Or maybe Recoll? Recoll creates a snapshot of what files you have on your system.

G'day,
Thanks for the replies, and my apologies for lack of clarity in what I was chasing.
Having looked around a bit more, I think the jargon I should have used was "CD catalogue maker".
One by one, I pop into a DVD/CDROM drive, my old CDs with their various programs and data files, and collate their directory trees into a searchable data-base. I'd been doing it manually under XP with freecommander (which has the save directory tree function) and Excel, and got as far as my CD #55. My usb-connected CD Library holds 150 of the things.
But I wondered if I could continue this 'life's work', using native Linux programs.
