Hi, Im at a friends house who already has an epson stylus r200 photo printer. The drive is listed as part of pakts cups 0.3 package (which I believe is also part of puppy 3's new setup) Were using 2.15ce based ecopup. Puppy in general seems not to autodetect epson usb printers. I have tried configuring cups on usb0, usb1 etc but with no joy. The message Im getting under the cups web interface when attemptin to print a test page is

Code: Select all

"Unable to open USB device "usb:/dev/usb/lp0": No such device"
This printer works under Ubuntu, although my friend prefers puppy! Many thanks in advance.

rob,

i don't know about the cups message...i find cups to be quite a byzantine interface at the best of times. but the r200 shows up as listed with the printer wizard for pup2.16...is it also listed for 2.15CE?

as openprinting.org recommends gutenprint as the driver, you should be able to just use the printer wizard to install it, without recourse to cups. one thing in usage of the printer wizard, that you're probably already aware of, is that it summons up xpdq, and when you choose to add a printer to xpdq, a common stumbling block is when you have to enter Name of Device. but a mouse-over the blank field reveals potential path-names, such as /dev/usb/lp0.

Cheers for that muggins, I have been using cups so long Id almost forgot about pdq printing. I am visiting again soon will let you know how I get on.

I believe there is a program that will allow you to configure cups without the web interface, I cant remember what its called though.

I have an epson photo 820.
I am running Puppy 3.00
Cups sets it up just fine, as long as I have the printer turned on before I boot.
My problem is that I have to boot into winblows to use the head cleaning software, when one of the ink carts clogs up (BUMBER)

It would be nice if some interprising person could help us in this area.

Anybody have any ideas about this?

Thanks.
