I tried your jwm-alpha-preview.tar.gz in Puppy 4.1.2.

1. Fullscreen toggle and restore window work perfectly.

2. Please make rounded corners optional. I prefer squared corner windows, taskbuttons, tasklists and popup.

This is my theme used with unpatched Jwm 2.0.1.

The next future puppy 4.2, will be supporting 24x24 icons and moving away from most of the 16x16 icons for menus, programs, so Just a heads-up on what other things you might want to look at the menu/taskbar on jwm and increase the size to match, Those 16x16 icons didn't have much detail anyways, and 24x24 is all that much larger, but look a lot better than the older 16x16 ones, great work on JWM

That's a pity, quite a lot of reviews seem to make a big deal about how Barry made Puppy's menu fit on short screens...

Yes please. Pixels are square. Windows are square. Why does everyone insist on round borders?

Oh yeah! It would be great to have that feature back. That would be a *major* improvement.

Yep. Much depends on the display size, type and how/if it's tweaked for color-temp, gamma etc (I know I 'cheat' a bit to my personal tastes but such is the norm for 'personal' computers dedicated to single users or so I'd imagine). It's kind of an art of compromise with lots of variables, I find myself trying to look with other eyes sometimes if a design concept is really at odds with what works for me (occasionally good things result, but culture can also be diluted to a characterless wash and by trying to please all .. if indeed such a thing is ever possible).

Decoration - aye, there's the candy. Small tidbits in the form of animation or buttons or just general elements can be a real fun change or even useful if that look meshes with the users coordinated flow and their method of perception and action.

There's a whole 'psychology' of a desktop environment, the airy lightness of transparency is particularly intriguing if it can be easily and conveniently controlled (and perhaps we're well on our way towards that goal here in jwm!) without too much affecting system responsiveness (and yes, I did notice a slight input lag there in Geany when the full window transparency came up .. so everyone will have to draw their own redlines for what is acceptable on their hardware - menu and tray transparency seem to impact performance hardly at all, likely due to their more-or-less transitory nature).

Icons (OT4here). Personal choice, really - I tend to think of them more as simple visual flags and stick with what works for me ('tiny' 16's for mainmenu if I have an easy choice) - again, screen size plays a large part on whether the scale works or things seem cramped or too wide open spaces and you need a decent bombsight to hit that droptarget) .. of especial note is using a distinctive unique and characteristic representative for apps (how often does one need to at least glance at the text to be sure of the app? breaks the flow, it does)

Soft-rounded or hard-square or fuzzy/crisp? That goes back to desktop 'psych' - it's as much a personal pref as colors and values .. some like a nerf playground of cartoons, others like a no nonsense approach - it's a wonderful virtual world when we have choice

Oya, the full-wrap visible border is still available on some wms, now where did I see that? style and fashion

No promises but I'll see if it's possible to get resizing from the top border again. Horizontal gradient can be done but needs a bit more coding than you'd imagine ... the current vertical gradient colors is done manually in JWM ...

JWM was hardcoded to do certain stuffs to be that mean lean WM.

I'm sorry but I didn't start moving ahead just to make a full reverse later on. Blame it on my nearsightedness. FWIW, please take a look at the JWM enhancement thread for a standard bugfixed version. A little extra tweak included too since it makes sense to have it ...

Internally JWM doesn't care about icon sizes. Whatever icon sizes you threw at it will be resized to fit the target menu/button height/width. Resizing quality is at the mercy of X render library ....

The program submenus have hardcoded height if I'm not mistaken (can't remember off hand) to fit 16pix icons. Only the main root menu have adjustable heights.

If icons are displayed with blurred edges then its probably due to artifacts scattered around the icons like antialiasing residue, alpha channel or something (after a resizing). I've tested a 256pix icon being resized correctly to the menu bar. It looks cleaner if I resized it manually and cleaned up the edges/artifacts ... Also it seems cleaner if the desktop supports alpha channel (24/32bit depth?) ...

No, you specify the height for them and if it's 0 it resizes to fit the icon (I've been using 22x22 and 24x24 for ages with it).

Just made quick check and yep, you're right ... the submenu height can be adjusted too ... thanks for pointing that one out ... Haha ... now I can really modify the menus and make more submenus ...

Later I'll need to make further checks on what the icon sizes will be given a particular height ...

It's not gonna be me who's gonna make it panzerpuppy Maybe try the blue theme from my previous post? Never liked the very shiny blue windows theme, it's just not comfortable to look at! I reworked DeepThought theme a bit, this is my new version:

Ok This is for testers, I'm not sure sure how well this works, I hacked the JWM source code and came up with this new menu, It doesn't use icons in the menu only, but it does look slick. Everything else is the same, basically if you install this pet, it will replace your current JWM. With this verson, then you'll have to restart X server to see the changes.

Very Nice...Love the transparency and rounded borders..
I especially like what it does for the tray....


@1 point..The pet put the binary in /usr/X11R7/bin....
I moved it to /usr/local/bin and it worked fine...
Also, If you use translucency, don`t use "move=opaque" ...
Drags my 1.8 g 768mb machine to a crawl when I move them..
Looks really cool though...
Resize=opaque seems OK ....

Now, how do we get rounded corners on the menu??
