best thing is to place a theme into ~/.jwm/themes.

I needed someone to quote to stay in the thread this is a general note to anyone who may need it I have messed up my JWM on various occasions and this is what I do to fix it

If you make a blunder and want to fix your JWM to the original settings

UPDATED 4-22-08
************************super easy *******************************************
super easy
PET ....install pet your done
nothing more restart JWM
**if you cant even restart JWM
install pet then Ctrl+Alt+Backspace then type xwin at the prompt
********************************************************************************

here is a restore of the factory original files from version 3.01
just change directory to root

/root/JWM-recovery-for-version-3.01.tar.gz
I made a a zip and a pet you have more control on what you restore with the zip the pet is easy

**********************using the zip for advanced users ************************
1.click on it to unzip it extract it to root

Note:inside are original files from a live CD of the official puppy linux version3.01

using the zip easy recovery
2.)open the folder called root *the files are hidden so click on the EYE to see them
3.)select everything there and copy it to your root
4)restart JWM

now you can start again with another theme without worrying about messing up
your JWM

depending on how messed up JWM is
I included more than the easy recovery inside the folder just in case you need it

Excellent idea Big_bass! Thanks for this! I seldom use JWM yet with that theme posted the other day here I just might start using it more. This may come in very handy for me. I know it will for others what with all the times I've read for help for such repair in the Beginner section and elsewhere.

Thanks again!

Merci, ça me fait vraiment plaisir, j'espère que ça pourra profiter à pas mal de monde ;)

And big_bass, it's a very good idea, it will be easier to restore the default theme.

Thank you ;)

First theme ? I like the layout and the idea to make a Xfce for JWM
keep up the good work some Xfce icons ?

you have done a wonderful job but you need to only fine tune it a little

the folders have the wrong icons

dont take that as a negative your work is excellent the details
can be fixed quickly :D

------------------------------------------------
A more aggressive restore to JWM
uninstall pet
(only as a last resort delete .jwm do not restart JWM without copying the new .jwm folder)
use the restore file I posted above
over write everything
restart JWM and even X if needed
-----------------------------------------------

I like your work I will try it again when you fix the folders
keep up the good work

It's very weird, i run from Puppy Linux v3.02 (without any save, so like a new one) and I just install the pet, restart the x server, and everythings works :?

Can I know what version do you use ?

I'll try to change some icons with shortcut ;)

Thank's for the test ;)

I should have given you more info
/usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ROX/MIME/mime-inode:directory.png
/usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ROX/MIME/mime-inode:mount-point.png

the above two need to point to this below

/usr/local/lib/X11/themes/Xfce/folder48.png

problem is the mime-inode:directory.png and mime-inode:mount-point.png exist so the symlinks dont get written

I am using a 3.01 based system

I included an image
I hope that clears up the confusion

I renamed the two folders and placed them in a in a zip I would have to change these
or if you know a better way let me know because if you overwrite them you will have problems when you uninstall

Thank's very much for your test and help, it's clearer now :). I will make some test with the 3.01 version because with 3.02 it works, it must be problem of link, different folder name ;).

I will keep you informed ;)

I finaly finish the theme :D. The problem is that the versions before the 3.02 are very different. The folder are not the same, we can't chose a theme for the icons... So I made a special theme to only fit the old version (i think the version of JWM is the first one :) and in puppy 3.02 it's the second one).

Only thing missing is Mu's gtk theme selector and my favorite theme "Glossy P"
oh ya and you can make the taskbar on the top auto hide. Well some like it that way, I personally don't. But I think it would look nice for pictures :)

That is so gorgeous! Someone should show this to the programmer of JWM so that HE can see just how beautiful his desktop can be! This is just so remarkable DrNaBl that---while I don't care for JWM---I could so easily get used to using this! :D

Just one complaint: Your link for the "oldpuppy.pet" here, I think you meant 3.0.1?---when I clicked to download the .pet it's dead? I hope the link is fixed soon as my main version of Puppy is 3.0.1 and that's the one I'd like to use this in.

Thanks for all of your hard work here DrNaBl! You are an astounding artist and themer!

Thank's for the comments, I'm very happy that you like the theme :D

For the autohide option I tried it but i don't very like it :P
But I will also try to make a gtk theme to make it look much better :) (Or to find one already made ;))

I also tried with GLossy P and it's true that it's very good looking.

And it's true that the link is wrong, sorry, i repaired it

Ok let's do the Gtk Theme :D (or find it :P)

as jwm goes that theme is a 100% keeper, Excellent stuff :)
I hope Barry kills that citrus theme and replaces it with yours:) Or if he kills JWM I hope he uses my icewm theme :)
once again top marks for your JWM theme. And "Glossy P" looks grand with it.

the posted "old "link still marks an error

If you decide to uninstall you will need this to restore JWM completely
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... ch&id=9218

Hey DrNaBl I edited your first pet and changed the two icons and it works fine for me now with version 3.01 the uninstall needs my pet to correct JWM back to the orginal state

Note : you should build a repair uninstall for 3.02 since I dont use that version but the template of my pet shout be very close and easy to edit

Thanks for posting that BigBass and for bringing that to my attention. Oupsie! Yeah... I did install the other one here so "I would've been up the creek without a paddle" (as they say in English) had I NOT have had your correction file. Thanks again!

I actually HAD read what you'd written the first time but I'm much like the donkey, you know? Got to bat me between the eyes with a 2x4 to get my attention most times. LOL!

Thanks again everyone. And BTW: The link has been fixed to the theme. ;)
