You have a few days to plead for an existing program. Also to submit some code for Puppy 1.0.5 . . .

My request would be for the dotpup downloader from Mark (MU) using wxbasicscript, running the 0.2 dotpup script from G2 (GuestToo)

What would you like in 1.0.5 (from existing scripts and dotpups)?

Smile

And this one is a must:
slightly hacked version of PupGet with ping test disabled

People who can't get pupget work will be very happy with it

Thanks BruceB for discovering that "error 10 and 11 is generated by a failure of the ping command to get a response." and G2 for making the doppup available for testing Smile

the ping test in pupget does not seem to work for everybody

i wrote a little demo that uses wget to test the internet connection (suggested by Bruce B), if anyone is interested

puppian, maybe you could download and test the test-online demo, and see if it works on your machine

i guess i should post about the pupget bug in the Bugs section, just to be sure

Thanks, that was bugging me also.

I already made my plea for mppe and Barry said no.

As I previously stated, I think it's the only thing missing. Maybe I'll just have to wait for the next version Crying or Very sad (or start over with a bigger pupfile on my usb. I don't have enough room to compile the kernel)

i replaced the ping test with the wget test in pupget for Puppy 1.0.5rc, and uploaded a dotpup here, if anybody wants to try it

my dotpup handler 0.0.2 does not have many changes

mostly it adds Always and Never buttons, so you can set it to run in quiet mode, and not ask anymore if you want to unzip the dotpup, or to run the installer

i made some other changes, but it's a simple program and doesn't do a lot anyway (unzips the dotpup, checks the md5sum, runs dotpup.sh)

i don't know if it has any bugs ... no one has reported any so far

it's easy to install a different dotpup handler, so it is not really important if it is put in the next version of Puppy

if it is put in Puppy 1.0.5, it probably should be renamed to dotpuprox.sh and put in /usr/sbin ... and /root/Choices/MIME-types/application_pup should point to dotpuprox.sh, not dotpuprox002.sh (in other words, it should just replace the 0.0.1 dotpup handler file

I've tested it and it works fine. It reports that all sites (ibiblio, nluug and google, except the 'www.google7474758474.com' one) are online. Thanks!

I've also tested the "PupGet for Puppy 1.0.5rc with ping fix, pupget105H.pup" (I test it on Puppy 1.0.3) and it works too!

Will this compact Java Virtual Machine

suggested by Java user (and only 100k-135k) really work?

Lobster, that is a commandlineversion only like wxBasicscript.

No Grafical interface(AWT, SWING , what is the equivalent to wxWidgets)

So you can not use it to run all these desktop-programs written in Java.

the thing is, it requires GNU Classpath that does most of the work, which is about 6 megs

it is smaller than Sun's Java, but not a lot smaller ... how well it would work, i don't know ... i would expect there would be some compatibility problems ... there's also kaffe

Kaffe is constantly under development, and lacks compatibility in many ways with the current releases of Java. It lacks many key features of a full Java virtual machine implementation

GNU Classpath, Essential Libraries for Java, is a GNU project to create free core class libraries for use with virtual machines and compilers for the java programming language.

Classpath is still a work in progress. The first public release will be version 1.0. There have been no public releases

I think John Murga knows all about them and their merits or lack of.
