hi

music was probably the first cultural development of humans. i find that an environment without an good and easy possibility to edit and print music writing in an easy form is not complete.

i did never use Linux for this purpose because of the encountered difficulties to install and use such WYSYG software like "rosengarden" (the old rosengarden in the debian distributions 1995 etc.). especially the requied libraries were always difficult to install, the change of the screen resolution etc.

i suppose that there are different progress and i would like to get help to choice an adequate little system for my puppy:

- write music with all musical signs and expressions
- play an easy melody, not a full orchester partition, with the programm (as children needs to recognise what is the matter)

how know an adequate small application and can explain how to add it in the puppy?

I have no doubt that on line music notation programs will or are being developed like the fckr word processor

However such systems take time and inclination. I am not aware of offline solutions

The advantage of the on line approach are jamming across nations, music by collaboration and so on

I will only remember with this short posting, the reason why I, as a lot of time already satisfied Puppy user, with bad knowledge of English did come despite my difficulties speaking English participate on an English message board, is not really solve

(my English is always poor but I can read and write now myself, with a lot of errors, very faster and with less difficulties...)

this exceptional forum did not in all the years integrate a tiny music editor with all dependencies as resident part of the system

Nted is simple but powerful.Here is a pet:

Hi,
Lilypond music notation software is said to be as powerfull and score nice rendering as Sibelius or Finale...or even higher !
Lilypond is well supported.
I used it some time ago ... the difference with Musescore or Nted is that Lilypond is not interactive; score are written in text format (see in Nted, there is an export to Lilypond ... and it works ! ) ... there is no GUI (excepted if using jedit as extra text editor... needs java installed ...not yet a full interactive GUI..but it fatens the edit / what you get process)

So some users edit their score on Nted and afterwards give the «final touch» using the .ly export file on Lilypond.

- Installation on Puppies:
* versions up to and with 2.13.41 do sh install OOTB on any PuppyLinux.
But no longer since 2.13.42 ...(this question ref Nr 1731 on the bug-lilypond list keeps still open till now).

- Meanwhile the latest stable 2.14.2 does sh install OOTB on dpup-exprimo, wary, racy , but not on Slacko (Although the .txz archive on the Lilypond download page installs OK on Slacko)
