pupget checks if there is a connection to the internet using ping
the ping test does not seem to work for everybody
this is a demo of a alternate way of checking if a URL is reachable, using wget (suggested by Bruce B)
or maybe using something like nslookup would work better
or there could be a Try Anyway button
