Option to install to Flash card on IDE |
|
I can't get my USB flash bootable, so am using an IDE->CF adapter.
This works well in some ways - Puppy sees an IDE drive which I can partition/use as I like.
However Puppy has 2 'Install To' modes:
1 for HDD which then doesn't run from RAM
1 for USB flash, which does run from RAM to save on Flash Writes
I need 1 which installs to 'HDD' (native Linux partition is fine...using a dedicated Flash Filing System would be even better: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/yaffs/) yet also runs from RAM to minimise Writes to Flash.
This is like the 'frugal' install with DSL (http://damnsmalllinux.org/).
Any chance of getting this kind of support into the Puppy 'Install To' Wizards?
- I'll try & hack it myself, if I get time...

Well, I've got my CF card booting finally
- could get syslinux to work at all, in any variant, so resorted to doing a base Debian install & then using Grub on ext3.
I could probably have done this from DOS...but I find Linux easier...
