Boot Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to Mount Root FS on 01:00

#1 Post by cxexa »

I cannot get my new puppy 1.0.5 .iso to boot up. I keep getting the following error. I am sure the disc image burned without error.

Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to Mount Root FS on 01:00

I understand puppy looks for VFAT first to place pup001 on. My VFAT is on another harddrive (hdb) Is this a problem?

I would just wipe out that vfat, so puppy uses a ext3 filesystem i have on hda1, but i have way too many mp3 files.

My setup is as follows:
hda1 - win ntfs
hda2 - ext3
hda3 - swap

hdb - fat32

Is there something simple I am missing? I tried to choose option 3 at boot to choose where pup001 is places - i had no luck.

Did you use the md5sum txt file to verify your download and what speed did you burn at.

The CD could be faulty, you could try burning at a slower speed if you have not already done so.

I did verify and burned at several speeds. I am sure the disc image burned without error. This error has something to do with the FAT32 partition.

Thanks for your reply.

You can try deleting whatever pup00? was created in VFAT then try pressing 3 when Puppy reboots.
