What's ntfs and squashfs patch ?

If compile the kernel without it,What happens?

ntfs is needed for modern Windows-Partitions only.
You don't need it, if you dont't have windows.

"The Squashfs patch adds support for the Squashfs compressed read-only filesystem".

I think this is the file usr_cram.fs
It includes all the additional software.
If you just need a consoleversion of puppy without the tools in /usr , you might try that.
But thats an absolutely crippled puppy, I do not see much sense in that ;)

I think that this answers sccat's question about the kernel compile problem he had with no X after booting his recompiled kernel?
