openoffice2

A waste of time, as it seems I should do more research before trying
this next time. Sorry for the waste of space.

if you want to share a file directly
you can run /root/ghttpd/httpd
now any files (or symlinks) that are in /root/ghttpd/htdocs are available to other computers on your network and on the internet
you can set the port in /root/ghttpd/httpd.cfg

anyone can download the file simply by clicking the link ... for example, if your ip address is 111.222.333.444 (there's no such ip) and you have a folder called files in /root/ghttpd/htdocs, then anyone looking at http://111.222.333.444/files/ will see all the files in that folder in their browser, and can click any file to download it

you need to open the port in your firewall and port forward the port if you have a router

if you have Azureus installed, you can just click File, Share and share whatever files and folders you like ... you have to configure your tracker first, if you haven't already ... mostly, click Files, Options, click Tracker, Server at the left, and put in your ip address ... you can also change the port if you like ... people can download torrent files from your tracker from your ip address ... something like http://111.222.333.444:6969 ... like this: screenshot
again, you need to open the port your tracker uses
it isn't difficult

Wow 8)

It came as a surprise to me that some programs are put together to run under any Linux - including Puppy. Before Chubby Puppy I was able to download and install Open Office 1.1. Be glad to hear if that is possible with the Beta?

I am probably unusual in not using or needing Chubby Puppy - but in 1.0.4 it was the version (out of barebones, standard and chubby) that I settled on and used - just in case . . .

The OO (Open Office) Beta is very good - maybe Barry has been working on it - dunno - a few days and we will have 1.0.5 . . . I would wait for that and if you feel you need the Beta of OO (which is very stable - very much easier to use AND comes with a database) then go for it . . .

I am also probably unusual in not using bittorrents but of course understand the value of them and when I looked Limewire was a good one. Did use Limewire a bit last year in Windows.

Open Office is a GREAT achievement and proves that open source works. Who uses Open Office in Puppy? What for?

I have been using 'Open Office' in Linux since StarOffice 4.0 and now am using Chubby Puppy for everything

My wife now uses only Open Office in Windows. She has dropped MS Office altogether and is learning how to use Open Office at home.

She has no choice, when I fitted a new hard drive to her machine I only installed Open Office, at her request. :-)
