Boot hanging just before looking for save files on hd.

I also see this oddity of Puppy hanging just before it goes to look for save files on the hard drive.

I think I can create this effect by starting a movie in the optical drive. Then stopping movie. Shutdown, and restart.

My question is: Can one of the Linux guys suggest ways for me to trouble shoot the problem. Like how I can alter the Puppy boot script to locate the trouble. I think If someone pointed out the location of the Boot script, and tell me how to add statements to post to the screen on boot up. I might be able to first tell exactly where the thing halts. Then we might add a statement to inquire what the status of devices and such are that might give information on what the nature of the beast is.

No, I do not know Linux commands. And I do not own a Linux book.
