Muppy08 has no driver for atheros ethernet chipset (ar8021)?

#1 Post by fudgy »

hi,

I am installing Muppy 08 here on a friends machine. Problem is there seems to be no driver for his ethernet NIC, which is atheros AR8021 on a ASUS p5ld2-x.

Windows loads the driver l251x86.sys, but ndiswrapper tells me this:

# ndiswrapper -i 251x86.inf
driver 251x86 is already installed

However no new interfaces are detected.

Did I miss something? Can anyone help?

After ndiswrapper did you try network setup? See pic below (from 2.17)

I tried it before but no luck. I will step back to 2.16 or 2.14R...

I didn't see the model you described in the list for 2.17.

If I understand right it's a NIC with an RJ45 connection. These kind of cards are very cheap, at least in Lost Angeles.

One idea if you can't get your card working.

Also some internet search could prove helpful. Not to mention puppy's dedicated Google search.

Right, no atheros drivers listed. Cheap, yes even in Italy. But I always got ndiswraper to work in such cases, thats why i am trying other kernels. 3.01 has some of those issues...

thanks very much for compiling! I tried loading atl2 module successfully (after loading atl1 module - strange), eth0 showed up in ifconfig but dhcp failed. I guess this is not a dhcp problem. So i went back to windows and there it turns out that the NIC needs a hard reset (message: cable not plugged in). Turning off power does not do this and reinstalling drivers nether. hmm. People are nervous here telling me i should get things going quickly. So i had to use USB cable to let them surf the internet through windows again. Sad story.
