compiling kernel with 1.0.5RC?

#1 Post by MU »

Fresh pup003 with usr_devx.sfs

# cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.29/
# make clean
make: *** No rule to make target `clean'. Stop.

Do I still need to download the kernel-sources?
Does make not need a makefile for the Kernel?

# ls
config-2july05-2.4.29-pup1.0.4 include

Although I use Linux since 7 years now, I never compiled a Kernel, I am beginner concerning this

Thanks, Mark

I have just (partially) updated the "How to compile a kernel" page, with instruction about this.

http://www.goosee.com/puppy/development ... kernel.htm

yes, you will have to download the full source.

Ok, thanks. Must add the "cpufreq" from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/k ... ufreq.html , as my computer overheats and shuts down without warning when compiling larger programs or playing Doom.

Great work the new release, I will download it tomorrow or so when the traffic is going down :)
