FlightPup ver 1
JB4x4
Thanks for this pup! It run flawlessly on my desktop, an Athlon64 X2 with Nvidia embedded graphics (w/o joystick - I don't have one) ... though I am not yet able to live beyond 1 minutes yet :p

Now this, I'm going to try.
I'm also wondering, since they're all standard image maps, if the Scenery from MS Flight would load. Just don't tell Bill Gates. It's about the only part of his empire that actually works, usually at least. Mostly because of the scenery files.
And of course they cut it loose. Typical that their flagship gets scuttled.
And my RAM is close to the lower limit, and plus I like the convenience and performance of a HD install run from grub...
I'll find out of course but it would be exceptionally bitchin' kewl if it will boot from a scsi partition.
If you don't hear back on it from me it's because I'm flying your simulator.
I do expect I shall be happy with it.

Sadness.
My graphics card is an nVidia riva TNT2 and the only nVidia drivers were for GeForce.
Tried all 5 combinations of compiz and xfce.
How would I remaster to insert the correct driver?
I've used the correct one before, just not in Puppy and it is fantastic.
BTW it's considered a Legacy Module and you have to dig through the nVidia site to get to it.

Re: Flight Gear
Taking off is the easy part. Landing is inevitable, landing wheels down and cockpit up isn't.ndujoe1 wrote:Thanks for making the Flightgear iso. It runs fine on my Pentium III with 256 MB of ram and Nvidia card. Now I will spend the near term learning how not to kill myself when I take off
I used MS Flight and a Sopwith Camel and picked out 4 airports near here, 3 in Fremont county and one in Guffey Colorado.
The one in Guffey you have a ridge about 400 meters off the end of the runway, so you have to really pull back the stick to clear it.
There's a Fremont County Airport, really easy take off and landing, (that's the name of it) and two that are like 10-15 km (as the crow flies) and about 4 times that (as the dog trots) uphill from it.
Those are the ones that will give you the best practice take-off and landing.

As far as I know, you can create a live-cd from your installed system (even a frugal install). I'm not using Puppy now and actually since I've changed pc I'm looking forward to have a frugal install of Puppy soon. In Puppy 4 series there's an item in the menu where you have that option to create a live-cd from your installed system, but since FlightPup is based on 3 series it seems, you must check if it's there.
If it is then all you have to do is install the nvidia driver .pet and then remaster the system.
If that tool isn't present you may search for it (I think it may be a feature of the Puppy universal installer).
Sorry for posting two links, you'll have to use the older one, I think. The NVIDIA-718601-k2.6.21.7.pet package.
Now, if you're gonna try to to create a new iso without first installing it (even a frugal install) including the nvidia driver, I don't have experience with this.
I know that the tool to mess with the iso is isomaster and it's usually included in Puppy (at least the 4 series ones).

Hi JB4x4,
I've looked for http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/jb4x4/iso/FlightPup-v1.iso and it no longer appears to be there. Have you moved it to somewhere else?

Hi Nancy, thanks for the pointer. I didn't know about ysflight. I shall get that too. I was mostly interested in the FlightGear flight simulator though. It is a truly gorgeous flight sim. Check out the images on their home page at http://flightgear.org/. I've been trying to compile FlightGear and have run up against a number of problems that could be avoided if I could get ahold of the FlightPup disk iso.

Hello miriam,
I've been playing with the new version two. I was able to compile it in Mepis using Brisa's script and instructions from the wiki. I don't suppose that would work in Puppy, I've not tried it yet.
http://brisa.homelinux.net/fgfs/downloa ... e-2.0.0.sh
It is a magic sim and very nice . I tried Multiplayer and used terrasync to get my local airport. The multiplayer user map is fun to look at too to see who is using.
You do need a fast computer, plenty of memory and a decent card. My Nvidia 5200 just manages if I turn off all the extras.

Yay!! Thank you so much. I'll be downloading it today.
I want it, not so much for myself, though I do want to play with it too, but mostly for my Dad who used to be in the airforce during the second world war. He is pretty fragile at the moment after a series of unexpected operations last year. (All young-person things like appendicitis -- in his late 80s!) Anyway, it took a lot out of him (no pun intended) and even though he has always been a very active person he now often sits and zones out. He likes using the computer, and as well as writing emails and exploring GoogleEarth he plays some card games on it. Unfortunately all those things wait patiently for him while he vagues out. It occurred me recently that if he plays a simulation -- a flight sim or a racing game (I downloaded Torcs too) -- then he will have to pay attention or he'll crash. It might train him to take control of his attention again.
So, thank you from me and, even though he doesn't know it yet, my Dad.

John Lewis was going to give me a copy until
you posted CatDude.
Very decent of him and you.
I am downloading it and will reupload it to 2shared.
http://www.2shared.com/
And bad luck if there are scantily clad ladies on that site.
I will try to refrain myself from checking that it's there every day.

Woo hoo! I just finished downloading the slackware binaries and they work perfectly.
http://packages.flightgear.org.uk/slackware-12.2/
That is for version FlightGear 2 and I'm using it on Puppy 3.0.1.
I had previously tried to compile FlightGear, but had some trouble, however in doing that I also downloaded and compiled SimGear http://www.menet.umn.edu/~curt/simgear/downloads.html. If the slackware binaries don't work for other people (they work on mine) then you might need SimGear too... however, I kinda doubt you'll need it.
I'll try to download the FlightPup liveCD iso again today (the download failed yesterday, part way through). When I have that I'll be able to demonstrate it on anybody's machine without having to install it. Thanks again to CatDude for uploading the FlightPup iso.

Hello miriam
If you are having trouble downloading via the browser, then use wget instead.
Open ROX-Filer and go to the directory where you save your downloads,
then open a terminal in that directory and use the following command:
If for any reason you get disconnected, just re-run the command and it will pick up where it left off.
Hope this helps
