Unofficial Bugfixes for Puppy 1.0.5

also known as SP105 - service pack 105

fixes a few minor bugs ...

fixes the Realplayer codec path in /root/.gxine/config
so gxine will play Realplayer streaming audio
like BBC radio

sets up rox Run Actions (to guitar) for bz2, gz, tar, and zip files
(really a configuration choice rather than a bug)

updates thoughtjourney's jwmConfig /root/.jwm/confirmKey file

replaces a few icons that were removed from 1.0.5 that were used by some external programs (dotpups, mostly Icewm)

adds rox mime-types: iso, wvm, mp4, sxc, stc, sxd, std, sxi, sti, sxm, sxw, sxg, stw

if Open Office is installed, sets rox run actions for doc, rtf, xls and xlw files

updated "Create custom Puppy live-CD" program - /usr/sbin/createpuppyonline
It should correctly resize the ramdisk.
When the script asks you to edit isolinux.cfg with "ramdisk_size="
be sure to insert it for every boot option, in the same line as the
PFILE parameter.

can you add This one? --> Fix tar.gz file association in rox

I don't know if there are more missing file associations, that's the only one I've noticed.

ok, i put rox Run Actions for some common compressed files in bugfix105 ... i set the run actions to guitar ... i don't really like guitar, i find myself using the command line mostly ... i can setup any Run Actions you like, but that really isn't a bug fix

whether X is killed or not when JWM restarts is really a design decision rather than a bug

i prefer not to kill X myself, when switching wm's

i could add it to the bugfix package (not that there are a lot of bugs that need fixing) ... anyway, i can add it anytime

GuestToo, can you add the fix for Ticker?

it requires a pre-existing /root/.ticker to work.

I mentioned this on the chat, but when I download a wmv file.
I have to change the run action to gxine, then when I am done I
have to switch it back to leafpad. If I don't change it back,
readme files and such open up with gxine.

I think this could be fixed with a mime-type? Not sure thought I
would mention it.

Oops! Too late, he cried.

Some things of note for the next release:

a) The file /etc/filesystems has been missing since v1.0.2 and needs to be reinstated (i can do it manually... but...)

b) there is a problem in /etc/rc.d/rc.update where the file /root0/.etc/modprobe.conf0 is to be copied but the file doesn't exist

c) similarly, in /etc/rc.d/rc.local0, there is a command that tries to create a symbolic link that already exists (ln -s /tmp/rox-thumbnails /root/.thumbnails)

Some of these things can't be fixed (I think) as some of the rc.* files are extracted from the Live CD.

c) i think rc.local0 can be edited ... i think if ln -s were changed to ln -sf, it would get rid of the error message

b) any changes re: root0 would probably have to be fixed by remastering the iso ... that could not be fixed from a dotpup

a) i don't know what /etc/filesystems is supposed to do

it's not too late ... i haven't finished the bugfix package

i already added the wvm mime-type to the next bugfix package ... i guess it's a service pack rather than a bugfix package ... a bugfix package would be bugfixes, a service pack would be bugfixes and general improvements and upgrades

i think you can add as many mime-type files as you like to /mnt/linux/Choices/MIME-info, and it will read all the files and Standard in /usr, so you don't need to copy Standard to /root/Choices

so i made a mime-types file called Puppy105 ... it adds wvm like this:

video/asf
ext: asf wvm

i also added mp4 like this:

video/mpeg
ext: mp2 mp4 mpe mpeg mpg

i also added a mime-type for iso files ... if you click an iso now, it opens in leafpad or beaver, and that can crash Puppy ... the run action could also be set so if an iso file is clicked, it will open in burniso2cd or graveman

i also added some Open Office mime-types ... i was wondering if all those types are needed, or if some of those extensions open with the same program, like swrite or abiword? if so, they could grouped in the same mime-type ... i don't have OO installed, but i could easily boot Knoppix if i need to run OO ... or i could burn a Chubby Puppy cd, i have the iso on my drive anyway (for torrent seeding)

i could also have a seperate ChubbyPuppy105 mime0type file, if it was necessary ... i don't think it is

i don't know about JWM restart ... it's not a bug if barry intended JWM to work that way ... there could be a popup message asking if you want to change the restart method

anyway, i've got some stuff to add to the service pack, including the Ticker program

install SP -rebooted try to stream - (no error this time) strated download but stalled
went to getput and downloaded xine realplayer extra's / plugin's rebooted
WhooHaa!!!!!!!!! Live steaming works for realone 0n Airamericaradio.com

updated bugfix105 (download the same file at the beginning of this thread) ... you should be able to install it over the first version of bugfix105 without any problems

As I understand things, /etc/filesystems is used by a real mount command. Refer http://www.comptechdoc.org/os/linux/how ... stems.html ... and to quote:

-t fstype - This option tells the mount command what type of filesystem
is being mounted. The types are listed below. It the -t option
is not used or the type is specified as auto, the superblock
of the device will be probed to determine the type of filesystem.
If this fails, the files /etc/filesystems or /proc/filesystems
will be read and all filesystems listed there will be tried
except for proc and nfs.

In my case, my home-grown automounter (more-or-less Knoppix's scanpartitions script) uses /etc/filesystems to determine a filesystem type when checking for partitions that are candidates for mounting at startup time.
