Networking issues on 2.17 |
|
Hey guys, after much deliberation with my subconscious self, i finally decided to go with Puppy 2.17 (over 2.16, 3.xx, xubuntu, dsl 3.x and 4.x, and a couple of windows performance editions) on my very old 300mhz, 256mb, 20gb Samsung Sens Laptop.
After browsing through the forums, i found out that 2.17 had a lot of bugs in terms of networking and experienced it myself.. some suggested to downgrade to 2.16.. however, i came across a post by mr. tempestuous (pardon for the wrong spelling) containing downloads to update the network manager and dchcp and the like..
Now, finally, after downloading and installing all these, I was able to finally open seamonkey and access google.com.. the problem here is that, I CAN ONLY OPEN SEAMONKEY AND ACCESS GOOGLE.COM!!! its like the browser freezes there and just doesn't let any data in anymore.. when i ping any other website in the console, i could still see that there still is a connection to my internet.. Its just as if something is blocking my browser from opening websites.. even gaim doesn't seem to fully log in..
I don't know if this problem has been solved before but if there is any kind soul out there who could help me.. I would really appreciate it!!!
btw, i'm using a Davicom dm9601 usb ethernet and a Corega RL2500 wifi card.. thanks

Hi what i would do if I was you and not using printers or "Windows Shares" is install fat free 2.17 http://www.puppylinux.ca/puppyfiles/custom/fat-free-pup-2.17-.iso then I would install my opera pet package,
http://www.puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/programs/opera-9.25.pet
And then that would be it, actually one of the problems I've noticed with pet packages in the past with earlier puppies is well sometimes they just don't work, I just found that out this week when I tried to install one of my latest firefox+java+flash pet packages and it didn't work, how i got around it was to turn the .PET to a TAR.GZ package. you can also do that by opening a command line in the folders directory, and type pet2tar.gz firefox.pet <--- has to be the packages name including .pet :
then you can extract it and copy it to the right locations, that worked for me
