ndiswrapper in puppy after version 2.14

#1 Post by John Lewis »

My Protac USB wireless dongle uses SiS163u. INF driver.
This worked fine and would set up using the wizard in versions up to 2.14.

From Version 2.15 on the driver would appear to load but then show no interface.

Below is how I finally got it to work which may help others with a similar problem.

1) copy the win98 drivers folder from cd to puppy (I put it in my docs)

2) open the folder and bring up a terminal window.

3) type: ndiswrapper -i SiS163u.INF (Case Sensitive)

If you wish check it's there and working.

4) ndiswrapper - l )should show sis163u installed) if so

5) modprobe ndiswrapper and then iwconfig should show wireless info

6) if all ok rmmod ndiswrapper (This is needed or the next steps won't work for some reason.)

7) Run the network wizard and follow the instructions. It will tell you that sis163 is loaded. Carry on with the install. The interface shows up wlan0 in my case.

Click on the interface and configure wireless.

This has so far worked for me in every case where the wizard didn't work straight up.

I hope this helps someone.

Gotta Love that Puppy.

My Netcomm USB dongle must be the same as your Protac. I also use SiS163u. Your procedure works for mine too. :D

I wonder what changed in the wizard from 2.14 on?

Glad you got your wifi working. I also have a dongle with ATH driver but had no joy with it. Madwifi dont yet have a USB driver.
