Saturday the floor above mine was burning, so my sleep was interrupted by the fire-brigade.
Hope you are OK? Was anybody hurt?
What about your flat?

Will this effect Muppy?
(I should have asked that first  )

The last fire we had (the Out house was in flames)
. . .
The cat was running up and down the stairs along with people trying to get out / phone the fire brigade and fetch water in a state of complete confusion.

the fire brigade was called (the phone was put down in confusion but they traced the call) by the time they arrived (about 7-10 minutes) I had put it out.
Lucky we had a smoke detector which alerted me.
We now have two extinguishers and a fire blanket (I had to use a jacket to beat it out)

I liked that jacket.

Cause: 'dead cinders' wrapped carefully in newspaper and thrown out.

http://files.filefront.com/addons+OO+08 ... einfo.html
addons_OO_082.sfs 236 mo

J'ai finalement réussi a télécharger l'iso avec seamonkey
Videopup-0082-FRiso 235 mo
http://files.filefront.com/Videopup+008 ... einfo.html

qdvdauthor-1.0.104; avidemux-2.4; Kino-1.2; rezound; pbackup; pburn-1.0
etc
pour la tester je pense qu'il faut au moins 500 megas de ram,
copier msy_082.sfs et addons_OO_082.sfs à la racine du DD puis sauver et rebooter pour avoir Ooffice etc

Lobster,
no nothing serious happened, they could controll the fire before other appartments were affected.

I just was interrupted early in sleep.
As I slept not good last week, this really slowed down development.

Now I am in northern germany.
I do checks concerning the save-files,and fix some final issues.
For example my MIME-ditor for the PCMan Filemanager still had some glitches.
It did not list MIMEtypes, that were not associated to a program.
And you could not create new ones.
This is fixed now.
The whole MIME-stuff is rather complex, and though my solution is not perfect yet, it should be ok for a release.

Somewhen next week we'll upload 008.3 in several flavours (Embryo, Server, Mini, Standard).

papos, je suis tres heureux, que muppybuild te pouvait aider :)

Do you have the md5sum for your files, please?
I then could mirror them.

To get it, type:
md5sum addons_OO_082.sfs
md5sum Videopup-008.2-FR.iso

I also would suggest to announce it in the french forum, it might easily been overseen here inside this long Muppy-thread.

cordialement, Mark

MU,
What the differences between Embryo, Server, Mini & Standard version?
Thanks.
Embryo:
A kind of Barebones-system.
Has only Xvesa (no Xorg), and JWM+ XfileExplorer + Adie Texteditor.
There will be an additional .sfs with Gtk, so that you can use Puppys Wizards to configure it.
It is intended not as a "working" system, but as a base to build a optimized custom Mini-version.

Server is Embryo + Gtk, Minisys, Samba, Abiword, Gnumeric.
This we will use for the companies we have as customers, that use Minisys to manage everything.
Abiword and Gnumeric are not used as Desktop-applications, but as remote-controlled document converters.

Mini is less than 200 MB, good for computers with 256 RAM.
It can be extended by additional .sfs addons like office.sfs (OpenOffice + Acrobat Reader), kde.sfs, addons.sfs (Minisys, wine, samba, themes, firefox, Java etc.).

Standard is the most easy to use, it contains everything except KDE.
It needs a lot of Ram (Maybe 700 MB or more).
I see Standard as a "Teaser" for beginners, not as an optimal system, I prefer the Mini instead because of better resource-handling and flexibility.

Hello; I have found issues with a couple of the desklets supplied out of the box.

Firstly; the calendar desklet has some very peculiar ideas. For example today (Thursday March 27th) is highlighted as Easter Sunday, with Tuesday being Good Friday!

As it has the right dates for the days of the week, I guess that it's the way holidays are setup that is incorrect.

Secondly; I cannot find out how to make the weather report a suitable location. The suggested method is suitable for US locations as per weather.com, but the format doesn't seem to apply to other parts of the world. Is it possible to set up a UK location (Post Code would be easy)?

location for weather forecast

#86 Post by fzsolt »

Just go to www.weather.com and set your home town (or the nearest place recognized by weather.com) using the LocalWeather search field near the top of the screen. Then look at the address displayed by your browser. It should look like something like this:

http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/b ... earch_city

Your city code is between local/ and the question mark. In the example above it is UKXX0085 for London. Give this to the weather desklet. It worked for my hometown (Debrecen, Hungary).

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Later Addition

That worked fine thanks. Though I observe that the data it presents for my location are slightly different from those on weather.com online! And, as if that wasn't enough; I downloaded the Firefox add-in which also takes a feed from weather.com and that's different again!

Ho hum; it does make you wonder about all this "information" we are bombarded with day and night: just how reliable is it in reality?

MU,
Excellent breakdown on the different versions of Muppy... Great info..
Although what do you consider Muppy 8.2? Is this the standard version?
Where can I download the English ver of 'Mini'? I'd like to give it a go on a custom Muppy?
Lastly, is it possible to edit 'IceRock' in Muppy 8.2 to automatically minimize after loading so to keep the taskbar clean? I'd like to know which config file I need to edit..
Cheers mate..

Embryo and Server will only be available as special flavours of Muppy 008.3.
The new Muppy 008.3 will be available in approx. 1 week.
The most recommended version to use will be Muppy 008.3 Mini+addons.

The download for the current english Muppy 008.2 Mini is:
Mini-Muppy-008.2-EN.iso (Download-links see first message).

We wanted to release 008.3 this weekend, but found ways to optimize it for computers with only 256 MB of Ram.
Finishing this will take some more days.

I have no idea how to minimize icedock.
To prevent it to start, you could remove it from /root/.icewm/startup.

To set it up (colours, used modules), use "Muppy-Icedock" in the "Desktop"-Menu.
To tweak some internal settings, edit: /root/.icedockrc.

Maybe to skip that it is visible in the taskbar:
edit: /root/.icewm/winoptions
Add this line:
IceDock.ignoreTaskBar: 1

After restarting icewm, it is removed from the taskbar, if you move the mouse over it.

I will try to write a script, that raises/lowers it after start, maybe that has the same effect as moving the mouse over it.

I made a incorrect statement...
Actually, what I wanted to ask was is it possible to have icedock as a 'tray icon' after loading?
The same steps/procedure as if I were to right click icedock on the taskbar and select 'tray icon'.
I apologize on the confusion...

Ah I see.
No, I have no idea how this could be done.
In theory... hm... GtkBasic supports Trayicons, so I could write one, that hides/unhides the icedock.

At moment I'm too busy, but I will see if I can add that somehow as a plugin to the new panel in 008.3.
Then it would need no additional resources, as the Panel now is integral part of Muppy.
But I cannot promise it yet.

I love GuestToos old postings:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=2919

So add this to /root/.icewm/winoptions:

Code: Select all

IceDock.allWorkspaces: 1
IceDock.tray: Exclusive
IceDock.layer: OnTop
IceDock.icon: /root/icedock.png
The last line must point to a valid picture-file, or remove it.

This does not solve, that there is a blinking taskbar-entry at startup.
But it has a trayicon now.

To fix the taskbar-issue, add these lines in the end of:
/usr/local/Muppy-icedock/Muppy-icedock

Code: Select all

shell("sleep 2")
a=GetWinIDbyName("icedock")
xwin_activate("0x" & a)

//-- uncomment this line to minimize icedock at startup!
//xwin_iconify("0x" & a)
If you can confirm, that it works, I'll add these changes to 008.3 :)

MU, I can confirm you are on-target with this one....
It's exactly as I pictured and works as requested.
The taskbar is now clean after loading.
However, I did changed the entry line 'IceDock.layer: OnTop' to 'IceDock.layer: Normal' in the /root/.icewm/winoptions file as being "OnTop" of every window is absolutely annoying.
Although, I recall icedock did an automatic pop-up when the mouse is moved to right side edge of the screen and disappears again when the mouse was removed but seems to not do that anymore. Hence the line entry change.

Hope this all make sense as I'm falling asleep writing this.. will pick this up later today...

Just tried to get qt-3.3.8 from the petget mgr & when I selected add & ok, next message was ~'did I want to uninstall it'. Started to wonder there..for a bit. Then tried psi - installed fine & showed up in the right pane of the petget mgr.

Otherwise working fine on acer travelmate 2420 lap with the ipw2200 native driver & Lin'N'WinNewB setup with xp. Working good that way on another box along with vista.

Also added a fresh Seamonkey & Opera.

08.2 standard
