ALSA for Puppy?

#1 Post by Rhino »

I had sound working a couple of releases ago in Puppy when ALSA was part of one of the releases with a different kernel than we are using now. Is it possible to include ALSA in a future release using the current kernel or could it be provided as a dotpup (possibly a totally ridiculous question)? I understand that Puppy now has some ability to compile, but my ability to do so is extremely limited. What is my best option to get sound going in Puppy? I will post my specs here when I can get at my Puppy machine.

Thanks as always! :D

There are Kernel-modules available, see this post:

http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=2667

There is a thread about Alsa too in the beginnersforum:
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=2214

Sorry I cannot help more detailed, but maybe these links could help you.

Thanks for the help. I scanned through all of the drivers in the tarball and tried unsuccessfully to get several likely candidates to work (removing them after they did not).

I have a Realtek ALC250...so I tried ac97 and its variants, however from what I have read, I need snd-atiixp. Would it be possible for someone to compile that driver using Vector (or Puppy) for this kernel? Is that even possible?
