As a new pup owner, I needed only one or two things to keep me in bliss with the new doggie:

1. Emacs (the "almost" Lisp Machine! The King of Text!)

2. w3m (because text browsing is your friend)

So, after getting devx, i compile emacs 22 from the gnu folk -- zap! pow! clean and fresh emacs, and i make 'er the defaulttexteditor. so easy! ^_^

Then, I like w3m & emacs-w3m, so i try w3m first. Oh no, we need a garbage collector! Well, the pup compiles libgc without complaint, with w3m following soon after.

This is not even to mention that my ralink card works, thanks to your wonderful driver support (when both DSL & Knoppix didn't).

I am so grateful for this distro, and the great, nice people here on the board. I've been lurking for several weeks, and wanted to say thanks!

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the compliments.

Perhaps you could tell us your version (3.01 perhaps?) and possibly share what you have compiled. You can use this FTP site for uploading the files:
ftp://puppy:linux@ftp.servage.net

Ralink cards are special to Puppy as it contains "R", what puppies are fond of, as in "gRRRRR".

I'm also glad things worked out for you, Always excellent to hear.
If your into compiling software for puppy 3.0 series, I'm just starting/building a new software repository.
Basically you can upload 40MB files max to my server and then I'll test them and make sure no dependencies are missing, then they will be uploaded to a remote server where they will be hosted for others to download and enjoy:)

if you need help making pet packages thats actually very simple
just take your working directory say its called firefox
open a command prompt in that directory
and type
dir2pet firefox <--- directory name.
it will start a script which is easy to follow

Well, I'm about to make a pet package of emacs 22 for upload, as you've suggested.

I was wondering if I should include the info files as well? Or does one only include the executable?

well thats up to you, Usually we include the info files that come with the software,as long as they are small, sometimes we remove the translations other then English, because programs like Gimp have 22MB of translations. And then we make one separate language support file.
