3.01 Manual problems?

#1 Post by NathanO »

I was just looking at the new 3.01 manual at:

http://www.puppy-linux.info/en/main.html

I believe there may be a couple of problems but I would like some one else to double check in case it is just me.

Section 4.2.2:

PUP_217.SFS
ZDRV_217.SFS

should be:

PUP_301.SFS
ZDRV_301.SFS

Section 13.1:

13.1. Windows-programs und corresponding Puppy-Linux-programs

Should be:

13.1. Windows-programs and corresponding Puppy-Linux-programs

Could be Nathan. I usually proof read the English version for Oli but have only just got a copy tonight. As there have been very few errors in the last few versions and they have all been of the minor type that you have pointed out here, I believe that Oli felt that it would be OK to upload the pages before the final proof read was done.

The learning curve may be steep but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You just have to pass the occasional oncoming train to get there.

*cough, cough* Those sections may be part of what's languishing in my inbox ... OK, no more procrastinating now.

Thanks to all of you and your proof reading. BillWho? is right, I wanted to upload the manual quickly because there are only some chapters new and I thought there are only minor bugs (just as mentioned by Nathan0). Because Puppy version 3.x has a three as first digit so I thought it would be good if new users will find a manual3.x instead of 2.17. That's why I made a big effort and hurry to release the manual as fast as possible. I will correct the bugs in the online version and - with some delay, when there will be found no more bugs - in the pdf-version (I have uploaded the pdf-manual with those bugs yesterday evening).

Hi there,

There are plans afoot to renew the Puppy website. I think it would be great to include your Manual in it and as a part of it. What do you think?

Currently we are thinking of using Drupal, a Content Management System that specialises in community-based websites. One of its features is WYSIWYG editing, including image uploading and insertion. It also has the ability to manage multiple editors to make sure two editors working simultaneously don't overwrite each other's work -- it also maintains document revisions. Would you be interested in maintaining the Manual in this way?

Concerning translations, what is your experience with Google's automatic translations services? As they will be integrated to translate the whole site.

Perhaps there could even be server-side conversion of the HTML to PDF?

Thanks,
tom :)
