Puppy hangs on USB startup. (Boots ok, but hangs)

So.. The live CD worked ok so I proceeded to install to USB pen drive. Initially I opted for 'ask' (about pup001 encryption) however when booting up I found my USB keyboard didnt work to enter anything..

So booted back into Windows, changed the config file from 'ask' to none.

Tried again. This time it proceeded further, but the computer froze when copying the pup001 file.

Moved to a different computer, booted up. This time it displayed a message about all sorts of things being corrupted (ext2) and couldn't be mounted.

So here I just gave up. DSL worked okay from pendrive, though obviously Puppy offers more software AND I liked what I saw on the live CD so that's why I'm asking here..

BTW is it true that puppy completely doesn't work with USB keyboards?? If that's the case then I can give up right here right now I think.
