Skype 2.1 is a SFS here:
http://users.tpg.com.au/01micko/01mickos_puppystuff.html
I think it is set up for Puppy Lucid 5.1, not sure if it will work in 4.3.1 |
Happy to report that it is working well in Lucid 5.1
Converted the pet to sfs and it's fantastic.
Thanks
Bones

Can´t download file |
|
I tried to download skype to try it in my puppy but couldn´t find the file.
Is there any problem with the program or is just the pet file missing?
Thanks!

A number of Wolf Pup's .pet archives can be found here: http://brainwavedesigncentral.net/wolf/. I don't know if it includes all of his .pets, but it does include the Skype .pet. (The 'static' version, anyway...)

Skype won't work here. I can accept the EULA but before I enter my details in the logon screen it closes down:
/usr/bin/skype: line 3: 12990 Segmentation fault ./Skype "$@"
Tried deleting the ./Skype dir as mentioned on p1 in this thread but it just re-appears, not solving the problem.

Mmm I don't have a Mediafire account so seems can't download the first one and as for the second. Tried to find out what SFS is but looked far too complicated. I guess I could spend another few hours to try and install it but it also says that it won't work for some. Not too sure about that!
So what you're saying is Skype 2.0.1 is broken and won't run?
Edit: thought I'd at least give it a try and downloaded the sfs file. However when I tried to copy it to /mnt/home it refused. Cheers for that! So downloading again... Why do simple things have to be SO hard?
Edit again: Error on download WTF? Do I have to make the DIR writable first or what?

you don't need a mediafire a/c for this link for 2.2.025 - just click the dotpet link of choice
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=66627
When the mediafire d/l page comes up, you have to click the d/l link top/middle of page
For the SFS

It should create a menu entry in "Internet" on installation. For some strange reason I had to symlink the "sounds" directory to /root/sounds for the ringing and other weird skype sounds to work.
Make sure you configure you sound, mic and webcam correctly, it might pay to make sure your mic works with alsa first to save some frustration. |

When I ran the wget method I got skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs 271B
When I went to http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=66627 and downloaded skype_static-2.2.0.25.pet it was not only a different version but was 29M.

gave it another go but even with Javascript turned on I couldn't download anything. All I got was "requesting download" and after a while my machine crashed. That's why I normally don't do popup, javascript and all the bells and whistles and use NetSurf instead.
Since I can't boot from USB I use the CD. After that everything is loaded from the pup save file on an external USB drive where all my data lives.
Having a look at your link I tried copying the sfs file to /initrd/mnt/dev_save instead of /mnt/home this time. Gave me the same error and told me that it couldn't copy the file:
| Code: |
Copying /mnt/home/TREKSTOR/TREKSTOR (E)/skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs as
/initrd/mnt/dev_save/skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs
cp: cannot create regular file `/initrd/mnt/dev_save/skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs':
Input/output error
Failed to copy '/mnt/home/TREKSTOR/TREKSTOR (E)/skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs'
Done
There was one error.

Thanks for your help though, I mean it!
