Toshiba 3110CT install
Here are my experiences installing Puppy on an old Toshiba 3110CT laptop. Might be of use to someone else.
Spec PII 300 MHz, 192 MB RAM, external PCMCIA CDROM.
Boot from USB not possible as far as I know (someone will prove me wrong). Puppy 4.2 retro version Live CD. Start laptop, holding down C to boot from CD. Shortly after loading the Linux kernel the system appears to lose access to the CD drive and the boot aborts. Solution was to load a copy of the 4 files needed for booting onto a USB drive as well, together with the empty marker file. After the system loses access to the CD, it finds files on the USB drive. Can then run installer and install on HDD. Puppy Linux, when fully booted, can access the CD.
The same thing can probably be done with a wakepup2 floppy/USB combination.
It is probably possible to use PXE network booting. That's how I got XP onto the machine before I had a CD or floppy. Much more work though.

as described in the subject, three notebooks:
ibm thinkpad x41 (laptop, not tablet), switched to USB flash because the 1.8" HDD replacement costs more than a netbook.
let's note r3 - borked HD controller, puppy with flash revived the machine.
victor interlink pc - that was a netbook before the netbooks, just right for puppy.

IBM Thinkpad T20 - 128 Megs of Ram, 650 mhz PIII with a 10 gig HD (pretty much a glorified Netbook) and a Linksys 80211.b PCMCIA card.
Running Puppy 4.2.1 (Full Install) with the following extras:
-gtkpod
-Firefox (Bon Echo)
-qcomicbook (want to read my comic book scans on the go)
-aMSN (just because i use MSN more than anything else with chat and eBuddy was getting on my nerves)
and i find that i perfer JWM over IceWM.

since the local paper is full of reports of laptops stolen out of pickup trucks. This one isn't worth all that much but works fine for e-mail when wireless internet is available.
Everything but the sound works. The Neomagic sound driver is blacklisted by the kernel so is disabled. I tried loading DSL with its old kernel and loading with that just stops at the sensing NM256 line.
Other machines:
1 Gig AMD CPU, 1.5 gig memory, home brewed from horse traded stuff.
Debian 5 'Lenny, bootable to Gnome or KDE.
This one is faster and more reliable than the XP box.
Dell XP Box, 4.6 Ghz AMD CPU, 2 gig memory.

(i chose this pup as it has a neat lil script for restarting the alsa driver as well as it uses iceWM which i prefer over JWM)
Its a old Tosh satellite 2535 cds

96 megs (32 onboard) found a 64 meg stick in a local pc shop
60 gig hd from a parts lappy i had(still puzzled how the 10 yr old bios sees this drive)but who am i to complain

Pcmcia wired card(had to set to 16 bit in bios)(wish i could find a wifi card to test but $$ tight atm)

Dell Latitude D420 ultraportable laptop.
I run Puppy 4.3.1 on the dual core (1.2MHz) 12.1" ultralaptop. I boot from a 2GB USB flash stick. Turned this slow side Windows XPPro SP3 ultralaptop into a fast system. Dell uses a slow 4300RPM 1.8" HDD to get a real PC into small, thin, & light footprint. It slows the entire system down. Puupy lets me work around the HDD & working from a small amount of my 2GB RAM, Puppy lowers the operating tempature. Works very well on the D420
Also use Puppy on my IBM Thinkpad T-23, which already ran faster and cooler than the D420 but Puppy gives me significantly faster operating speed.

Have been using Puppy for quite a while now, have used loads of linux over the last 10 years, but Puppy kidnapped me and i'm too comfy to go back to bloated distro's, thought i'd best finally join the forums.
As to systems ~
Main linux box - Puppy 4.2.1 - Athlon XP 2800+, 1GB RAM, 64MB GeForce2 MX400 AGP, Soundlbaster Live (CT4620), 120GB Western Digital HDD.
Other boxes (i have quite a few but will only list the ones relevant to linux use) -
Puppy 4.2.0 SMP/Macpup Foxy 3.0/Win7 - Dell Optiplex 745 SFF - E6400 Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, onboard video, Soundblaster Live External (USB).
Puppy 4.2.1 - Dell Latitude P4 2GHz (laptop), 512MB RAM, GeForce2 MX series video.

Gateway G6-350 with 600hz Katmai P3with 512mb ram
6gb Western Digital HD
Puppy 4.3(likely switching to Turbopup Extreme)
