Live cd doesn't save your language, keyboard, screen res....

#46 Post by gerry »

If you run live cd, only your personal home directory gets saved. Not your language, keyboard, screen resolution, Alsa configuration etc, which are system settings.

Same for frugal install, must specify all these in menu.lst else it wont work. And alsaconf runs each time at boot. Do they get saved with full install?

Does anyone know how to boot straight to desktop like in Puppy, without having to log in manually each time?

Yes, all these config choices get saved when using a full install.

Slitaz version with a Puppy Linux kernel

#49 Post by wiak »

One of the things I'm really liking about Slitaz is its clean and tidy structure. At boot time everything centres around the simple script /etc/init.d/rcS

and from there it runs a handfull of other scripts in /etc/init.d,
which are also very simple and cleanly written.

I see that Slitaz member TedDog has made an iso of Slitaz with a kernel and some modules taken from Puppy Linux in order to get wireless working on it and some other stuff - all in an iso of around 36 MBytes. TedDog also comments on how well written all the Slitaz scripts are. Hopefully he'll publish the resulting iso somewhere.

Mr Headfound.
One of the leaders of slitaz did say he was on holiday
after the exhibition they attended, so if the computers they run are off line, we are in for a long wait..

Cooking (SliTaz and food!) is marvellous - strongly recommend it even though it's an early development release.
Although compact liveCD distros, including the Pup, intend the opposite, I have always advocated full installation using really old kit. The only downside is availability/compatibility of memory for some systems. However, amazing results can be obtained even with 486 s and all those nasty Slot1 jobbies poisoning the planet. Issues relating to saved settings & co disappear. It may be more important to save boards and HD s? If possible save all those AT PSU s that never did suffer from badcaps.
Did anyone attend the Swiss conference? Is anyone in contact with our Swiss correspondent, marksouth?

@nooby is your hda ntfs? Slitaz doesn't support it out of the box, you need to install the ntfs3g drivers to access it.

Your right but I thought me had done that. I did
tazpkg get-install ntfsprogs
and the prog asked me it should include fuse and the other thing me
fail to remember name and that got installed.

You mean it still need drivers. Didn't they get them when I did the tazpkg ?

Why does SliTaz make it so hard to look at the hard disk?
