Puppy 4 - problem detecting wireless router

#1 Post by tom.poc »

Newbie to linux. Just started with Puppy 4 and it's great! Only problem is I can't connect to my wireless router. It's a cheap Talk Talk router with a Philips SNU5630 usb dongle and when I load the MS driver with ndiswrapper (using network wizard) and scan for the router it tells me that no networks found.

Any ideas what to do next?

Did ndiswrapper install the driver ok? -- it should have been put into /etc/ndiswrapper.

You can test from a terminal... how does it go now...

# ndiswrapper -l
...this will verify if the device is there I think.

# modprobe ndiswrapper
...this will load the module.

# iwconfig
...you should be able to see the new interface.

Hi Barry

Ndiswrapper does load driver and iwconfig displays the device but with no associated access point.

I should be able to scan for the router before attempting to configure the dongle shouldn't I?

Anybody got any ideas on why I can't detect my wireless network.

Ndiswrapper says the driver is loaded but it can't detect the router signal even with my laptop next to router!

Could this be a driver problem? What do I try next?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tom
