Desktop icons are controlled by ROX and not IceWM. They are single click by default, but can be set to double click using ROX-Filer>Options>Pinboard and unchecking "single click to open" in Pinboard options.

Try rarsa's Pvolume. That always worked perfectly for me in earlier versions of EZpup, and it looks almost as nice as the one you liked but had the problems with.

Thanks for updating EZpup-4.0 to v3. I tried your fixes and they worked fine so far - especially blinky staying put when you switch themes. Good job!

Cheers

Well its the least I can do for you, You've helped me in the past and If it wasn't for your icewm you put into 2.15ce I wouldn't be here, That was the turning point for me to stick around. So let this just be a way of saying thank you :D

Oops! Just realised that is a tcl/tk based application, so it won't be directly supported in Dingo. Sorry.

I have always been a big fan of Ezpup

here is a page at tmxxine about it . . .
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka=EZpup

With the new themes of Puppy 4
I was in less of a hurry to install Ezpup . . .

After all do I need the glitz?
And then I added Ezpup to Pupeee (which is 3.01 based and I am using on an ordinary desktop) . . .
. . . and I realized that glitz and ease of use is too good to miss . . .

Add ezpup
goto Menu / Settings / themes
. . . and get the icing on the cake

If you have a slow connection - no need to be jealous - use themes in Puppy 4 - Ezpup is not essential

If you have a slower machine change the existing themes.

For the rest of us . . . Ezpup is fun

Thanks Warren - woof woof

You're welcome, Lobster. One of the things I was going to do with EZpup-4.0, and didn't get around to, was adding some extra JWM themes from the themes exchange for our neophyte JWM users. Maybe with EZpup-4.1? :P

ttuuxxx wrote:Here's my fixed version but the volume mixer doesn't work right on the taskbar, I'm working on it right now. It could take hours, if you can't wait just try this one out http://www.puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/other/EZpup-4.0v3.pet
***Caution!***
Due to the inclusion of some scripts not included with the original EZpup-4.0, this version may cause problems with earlier Puppy versions. For example, I believe ttuuxxx's version includes a replacement for .xinitrc, which caused some problems in my Puppy 3.01 installation.

The original EZpup only includes one application - MU's Cursor Selector - apart from Blinky for the network tell-tale in the task bar. That's not to say there is anything wrong with ttuuxxx's updates, on the contrary, but they may be specific to Dingo so be careful with earlier versions and make backups of .xinitrc, /root/.icewm/preferences and prefoverride for example.

Alternatively, use the CLI command pet2tgz and unpack EZpup-4.0 to get only the eye-candy you want.

Hope that helps

Not This time, Only included free memory applet, changed xintric but not like last time I actually made it smaller:)
Altered icewm startup, But that wouldn't change anything.
I did this one from scratch, People should not have any added problems with the changes I made.

Well that's a relief then. I had visions of 2.xx and 3.xx Puppies going haywire after I'd said EZpup-4.0 was compatible.

Yep, it must have been the .xinitrc that caused the problems then. It lost my gdesklets, hotpup, qiv and startup sound settings, and I still can't get qiv -z command to give me back pseudo-transparency automatically on starting X when it used to do so before. Maybe I can blame freememapplet for that.

Oh well, at least it's only me, and I can have some fun getting it all back together again! :P

naaa this time it can't be freememory applet because I have it automatically starting a sneaky way, LOL I shoved a shortcut into the Autostart folder in root, LOL well I seen it there and figured I never had a use for it before. So now it autostarts because it sits in the folder and if the shortcut is deleted in the folder it won't start.

hi paolo,

to switch the wm, you normally exit to the console (i don't know how it's called exactly as i'm not at my puppy right now). It's in the Exit-section of the menu and than

Code: Select all

* xwin startjwm
* xwin starticewm
* xwin startXXXXX
cheers

I installed EZpup-4.0v3.pet and things behaved in a funny way (icons replaced with tiny icons, others replaced with the warning triangle). I restarted Puppy and now it complains xwin is not found and refuses to complete booting. I am left with a command prompt. Any ideas? (see spec below).

What version of Puppy did you install it on?

At the command prompt, type

Code: Select all

xorgwizard
and follow the prompts to ensure that your X-server is set up properly. Then type

Code: Select all

xwin icewm-session
Post any responses here, please.

EZpup-4.0v3 is a modification by ttuuxxx that installs a new /root/.xinitrc file (I think). Your problem may be there, but we'll see.

Why nobody reads my signature? :) Puppy v4 Full Install
At the command prompt, type

Code: Select all

xorgwizard
and follow the prompts to ensure that your X-server is set up properly. Then type

Code: Select all

xwin icewm-session
Post any responses here, please.
I executed xorgwizard but skipped the tests because I know the correct settings. Then I see a message in red saying:

'If X did not work, type 'xorgwizard' to run the Video Wizard again. After that, type 'xwin' to run X graphics mode etc'

I ran it again and this time I ran the test, I saw a message box in graphics mode saying something like: 'if you can see see this click OK'. I clicked OK and then it froze showing a blank screen. Not even ctrl-alr-backspace works.

I did a hardware reset, started again and at the prompt after 'Executing personal config script /etc/rc.d/rc.local...' I typed xwin and got '-sh: xwin: command not found'.

And I don't even know how to reinstall Puppy without deleting my current Full Install first.

before you do that, do this
place your puppy live cd into the drive
during bootup it should pause for a second. and you should be able to type.
type in
puppy pfix=ram
that will boot you live on the cd not using your saved hard drive info.
next go to your hard drive where you have puppy saved.
navigate to /root/.xinitrc <--- its a hidden folder so press on the eye on the top of rox navigation to reveal it.
next right click on it and select "open as text"
go to the very end where it says exec icewm or it could be exec icewm-session and change it to exec jwm
next go to /etc/windowmanager
right click on that file and open it as text and then change it to jwm,
save it and reboot without the live cd
that should give you jwm as default once again, once your back using default settings uninstall icewm via your puppy package manager

It says exec jwm and before you ask I am sure I am looking at /mnt/hda1/root/.xinitrc
uninstall icewm via your puppy package manager
ttuuxxx
Does this mean I should give up on ezpup?
