Here's 2 terminals :) with tons of options, even more than Sakura :)
Konsole which is the default KDE Terminal
and YaKuake

YaKuake is inspired from the terminal in the Quake game: when you press a key (by default F12, but that can be changed) a terminal window slides down from the top of the screen. Press the key again, and the terminal slides back.

It is faster than a keyboard shortcut because it is already loaded into memory and as such is very useful to anyone who frequently finds themselves switching in and out of terminal sessions.

You can move the terminal around by holding the 'Alt' button down and drag it with the mouse. f12 scrolls the terminal up/down

Hi,

my rig: ToutouLinux4.1.2/ k2.6.25.16/frugal (french translation of Puppy4.1.2)
KOffice loaded at http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/K-Office_400.sfs
and renamed afterwars as K-Office_412.sfs
All modules have a menu entry after rebooting and run.

This KOffice.sfs sounds like good news ! Many thanks to the developpers !
I was looking for something more tiny than OpenOffice and able to perform mail merging.

I wonder how fixing the following errors:

1) KWord while asking for Print Preview:

Code: Select all

Could not open
/tmp/kde-root/kdeprint_1XT10Jsp.
Reason: Creation error
2)KSpread while opening a GNumeric spreadsheet:

Code: Select all

Could not open
/mnt/sda6/.../calc.gnumeric.
Reason: Parsing error
Many thanks in advance for any idea!
Cheers
Charlie

Hi playdayz,
thanks for your tread !
my rig: Toutou4.1.2-k26.25.16-frugal (=french translation of Puppy412)
playdayz wrote: For anyone interested, here is a catalog of packages and changes:

Should I have to install the above packages?
I installed KOffice.sfs. Install OK!; just can't get Print Preview working on KWord or on loading a Gnumeric spreadsheet with KSpread as now.

Thanks for any answer!
Cheers

Preview failed: neither the internal KDE PostScript viewer (KGhostView) nor any other external PostScript viewer could be found.
Do you get this message for print preview....I do.
If so then that would suggest that some sort of postscript viewer is needed...I believe a mime launching/desktop file needs altering...but i'm no kde expert.

No, I got the message already quoted in my former post:

Code: Select all

Could not open
/tmp/kde-root/kdeprint_sUqrAvtG.
Reason: Creation error
           OK
I also installed Puppy412 to verify an eventual difference between Puppy and Toutou: I got the same behaviour.

KWord: I have had some deeper examination of what happens;
when asking 'File/Print Preview' of a document, a 'kdeprint_sUqrAvtG' temporary copy is actually created in '/tmp/kde-root' folder; opening there a console and clicking on kdeprint_sUqrAvtG it is automatically opened and viewed with epdfview.
Then clicking on OK in the error message box causes delete of the temporary file; and popup of a new empty grey box entitled 'Preview-KWord' with only a 'close' radio button in it.

A preview may of course be performed through a longer way: creating a cups-pdf document and vizualize it...together with a more than wasted time feeling!

Thanks for any idea!
Cheers

Doh...sorry mental lapse.

It does seem we both getting the same problem...preview file created but no application launched to see it. As it happens I do have kpdf on here. I will examine more closely as I did not realise this problem existed until you mentioned it but would be nice to cure.

I don't have gnumeric but koffice is not renowned for compatability with other applications :(

If I ever get any free time I'll look into it, but good luck guys :) I'm working on a base right now Plus updating puppies 4.2 etc. its complicated enough without mixing kde in the middle , lol

Hi,

I went to load and test KDE358_083.sfs (about 360MB - care to use the updated link given by MU) renamed to KDE358_412.sfs using the bootmanager (md5sum matches OK)
It is impressionning as well as the (huge !) job done by MU - thanks again Mark!!
I although prefer the 80MB-KOffice.sfs.

KWord: I of course had a quick look to KWord inside KDE358 and made a Print Preview: result = same error message as above together with another error message telling that 'Ghostview could be missing'. The 'Preview-KWord' box here shows the blank page and some more features than reported on my previous post. It seems as if KWord were looking for Ghostview and do could not find it.

KSpread: same behaviour under KDE358 as with KOffice.sfs while trying to open a GNumeric file.

see here for KDE358 thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1&start=60

These are rather 'cut-and-try' tests as I am only a linux-newbie.

note: all 'Packages and libraries used to prepare KOffice 1.6.3 for Puppy 3.01 and Dingo 4' are present on my rig.

Thanks for any idea.
Cheers

Hi,
on puppy412 k2.6.26.15 frugal
Many thanks to the developpers!
I have browsed the web about the following error message without finding something to try to fix it...(only with linux-newbie capabilities..)
I had like KOffice running
aragon wrote:...
4. KServiceType::offers : servicetype ThumbCreator not found
:!:
...
Did this already have been fixed...because I get this error message running KWord (or others) from the command line. (KOffice_400.sfs renamed to 412); all libraries and dependencies installed + gamin full also installed.

Many thanks for answers!

Cheers

Hi Charlie its been sometime since I made this pet package posted on the previous page, but when I was fiddling around with koffice, I made a bunch of fixes for it. so you might want to uninstall your sfs and try the pet out? and report back what you found please.

many thanks for your quick answer...and ...I am sorry for my late reply as I have been buzy for my job for a while.

I got that .pet installed and again the "print preview" on KWord as on Kspread does not work here.

As I manage to find a database that I can interface with a textprocessor - and also not to huge (as OOffice) - I like using Abiword and Gnumeric - I do not intend to use KOffice as now.

My dream is a MSWorksSuite-like running on Puppy: its integrated database render it easy to perform mail merging; I tried MSWorks4.5 on Wine ...it is rather too slow..!

Many thanks

KOffice

I realise the topic is now a little old but with the lack of anything for the new KOffice 2.2 I have been trying to use these sfs files (converted with the SFS file convertor) and PET but with little success in Quirky NOP.

The PET installs and places all the menu items in the right places but then does not run anything when asked.
The 1.6.3 sfs file when converted will show in the sfs modules to load at startup but just leaves the system unable to boot, whilst the 4.00 file when converted will not appear as a module to load.

Not sure if this is one problem (me probably since my experience with linux is not that great) or a number, but any help would be appreciated.

Are there any sfs4 files for KOffice 2.2 that may make life easier that I haven't found yet.

Many Thanks

the activity in this thread is very low actually

probably because some packages of Koffice freeze some puppy versions!

but the new wary works very fine with the one (KDE 3.5!)

please see this message concerning puppy wary
