I've experimented with some GTK themes. DarkMint is one I took from gnome-look, the others are based on the cool Stardust theme by Zigbert.

:!: EDIT

I tested both DarkMint and DarkCold4 (next post) on Saluki, they work for XFCE too, and give Saluki a stunning appearance.

By the way, the gnome-look user that posted the DarkMint GTK theme is originalseed, it seems he's created it so you may want to watch later for more. He made a blue version called DarkCold4 and it worked for me on Wary 5.3, too. Well, I'm not sure whether the themes work under JWM but certainly they work under Openbox. I'm posting a screenshot and a PET here.

Sorry, I've got little experience making or modifying themes. :( All I did to the stardust gtk theme was changing its colour, maybe in time I get enough skills to make something as awesome as DarkMint. 8)

Hi vicmz!

Wow!!! These themes - especially the Darkmint and Darkcold4 - are truly exceptional for their beauty and the way they dress up Puppy's GUI and programmes! At the moment I'm using Darkmint in my 3Headed Dog and I just can't believe how gorgeous it makes all the various window managers/desktop environments that I use.

Later today I'll boot into my version of Slacko-533 and give the Darkcold4 a run for its money there. I can't wait to see how that'll look! :)

Thank you so very much for sharing ALL the above themes with we Puppians! Keep up the truly great work of altering pre-existing themes, making new ones, and searching the net for new and exciting themes to help keep Puppy vibrant for all of us vicmz. We really appreciate it my fellow Puppian friend!

Cheers/Amicalement,

Eyes-Only

E17 golden GTK theme (haven't seen it here, sorry if repeated)

@Eyes-Only
I'm not as skilled as other forum members, yet it's great to have some motivation to learn. Thank you

Been messin' about with the original 'DeepThought_gtk-0.2.pet' theme and modified it to my own taste. Although it may not suit everyone. I also made a JWM theme to go with it.

Actually, not a bad looking theme Tuxtoo - and I really enjoy the "Puppian play on words" as it would be a theme title only really understood by a user of Puppy. Great choice for a theme title name! ;) And as I said, not a bad looking theme either.

Keep up the great work our fellow Puppian friend! Choice is good! :)

I hope they don't mind
They're the silver version of the E17 GTK theme, and a metallic, shiny black and white version

wdz8

#58 Post by recobayu »

Hi everyone, i make a little gtktheme n jwm theme with pixmap engine.
i think it's like wdz8. if you choose the right wallpaper and icon theme, maybe you think it's real wdz8. see attach file and goto menu, desktop, setting, jwm configuration.
we also can hear a startup sound if we add a file: 'loginku.wav' to /usr/share/audio

Edit1:
I reuploaded the new wdz8 theme, in this pet also contain openbox theme, choose wdz8 theme and I think it's almost likely true wdz8. Want it?
for cursor, goto kdelook here:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Wi ... bf14709618

Edit2:
A new wdz8.3.2 is here. The only things that must be there are
/usr/share/audio/loginku.wav and /usr/share/audio/logoutku.wav
please go to my google drive here, it's up to 335kb:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-WmUMQ ... sp=sharing

Edit3 (wdz8.4):
I also cut down this size very much.
I add new cursor, Dhikr_cursor

Edit4 (wdz8.4.1):
checkbutton and radiobutton fixed.

the new wdz8.4.2:
frame and default button are fixed. it's better now.
inside this pet, there are jwm theme, gtktheme, and openbox theme.
We can hear a login sound if we add file loginku.wav to /usr/share/audio, or if you don't mind, you can download my sound, wdz8.3sound.pet here:

Here are some colourful and flamboyant gtk themes running in Dpup Wheezy.
Not sure if they will work in all pups but they seem OK in Precise as well.
There is mention of some featues needing the "mist" engine but these look the same to me with or without it.
Maximum number of attachments per post is 10 so I will post the .pets below in a separate post.

Here are the .PETs of the above themes in case anyone is interested.
I am also posting the Debian Wheezy mist engine.
You will see warnings in console if you don't install it.

This theme is similar to the old Stardust theme, but is partly using vector graphics to scale nicely when used on touch-screens.

I have not been able to fully switch to vector graphics because of the way gtk handles stretching. The border-setting in gtkrc works wonderful for raster images, but not for vectors.

This update includes gradients in some of the svg-images, and it would be great if someone with an ancient pc could test how this affects the performance. Theoretically, gradients are heavier than mono-colors, but is this is noticeable? - I don't know.

In my super slow OLPC XO-1, it adds a measurable 8-10% in gtkdialog apps over flat-gray-rounded, for example.

Should point out that if /usr/lib/gtkdialog/xml-info has

Code: Select all

[ ! "$MODE" ] && MODE="flat"
the theme is omitted from the gtk-chtheme choices.

I am not surprised that flat-gray-rounded are faster. That theme are very limited, and uses many of the default settings in gtk, so many widgets does not get any new theme-layer (ie. the radiobuttons and checkboxes). I would think that using the theme 'Default', it is possible to speed up things a bit further.

To get the correct picture of how the gradient vector graphics works compared to raster graphics, you should use the old Stardust theme as the reference.

Thank you - This leads to new insight.
